I just finished Saints Row IV. It was pretty good, the port had performance issues but the game itself was fun. Just started a horror visual novel called "The Letter" last night. Enjoying ikt so far.

Star Labs reveal their new Linux-powered Star LabTop Mk IV

Quoting: Purple Library GuyTo my surprise, it appears I can order this in Canada. Not so much to my surprise, it costs a bundle in $Canadian. But it does look like a nice machine . . .

To be fair it is cheaper than the Think Penguin J3; Purism 13; or System76 Lemur 14 that I had customized to my liking once I factored in currency conversion. Granted the J3 has support for Trisquel and the Lemur and Purism laptops have Coreboot Support; and the Puirism has kill switches. The Star Labs has none of the above so I would hope it is cheaper.

I'm always happy to learn about a Linux laptop manufacturer I had never heard of before. I love that they use IPS matte screens; that they support Linux Mint and Manjaro; have 13" screens; and sell spare parts on their website.

System76 announce their 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen powered Serval WS laptop

I am very happy to see they made a laptop with an AMD CPU. That is a huge plus. I am also really happy to see it have a 120hz screen, I think refresh rates above 60 are one of the best things I have experienced in the last 10 years. If I could change anything I would have tried for a 14" screen and to have an AMD GPU.

Supraland is leaving GOG after less than a year, dev says sales were low

I tried the demo and enjoyed the gameplay but like many others I found the the performance was too bad to be worthy of my money. It is no secret that Linux and GOG are both a much lower marketshare than Steam and Windows so I'm not sure why it came as a shock that either would have low sales. Had they worked towards improving the Linux version they may have gotten more sales. I looked at all the patches that have come out for Supraland and found only one performance fix and it was before the Linux version was released. They fixed lots of bugs which is good but they didn't address a known issue with Linux.

I'm playing through Saints Row IV right now. Good game but the Linux port has performance issues. Of recent games I've finished that I recommend they would be Rainswept; A Summer’s End - Hong Kong 1986; State of Mind and Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York

A look at the Penumbra Collection on Linux with Mesa in 2020

Quoting: CyrilStill sad to see that GOG have not the Linux versions of the Penumbra games... I send an email about it this month and still no answer.

This is just my theory but I think issues like these are why it is not on GOG. To be more specific from what I have gathered GOG is very strict about providing the same support to all potential customers. For instance on the CRPG Beautiful Isolation the Linux version was late being on GOG but the developer mentioned that this was because on Steam they could simply choose to not support those that used AMD CPUs and GPUs on Linux as they had a bug on those setups at the moment. GOG would not allow them to do this and had they released the Linux version on GOG they would have to support all customers not just certain ones. Now luckily that bug got fixed and the Linux version for Beautiful Desolation is now on GOG but it makes me wonder how many Linux games that are not on GOG are due to not being able to blacklist customers like Steam allows them to. Again, just a theory.

I doubt that it works that way. Beautiful Desolation still has a bug that makes the game unplayable on Linux with Mesa drivers (unless you want to cheat). Whatever restriction or problem they have with GoG is probably completely unrelated with the current state of the game on Mesa.

From the GOG forum for the game coming from an employee of Brotherhood:

"GOG is a lot more strict about release. They are not going to let me isolate an entire processor manufacturer (AMD) for a platform"

https://www.gog.com/forum/beautiful_desolation/linux_version/page1

On Steam they were literally allowed to put in the system requirements that the game wouldn't work on AMD CPUs or GPUs on Linux and weren't going to be officially supported. Then behind the scenes they fixed the bug; got it released on GOG; and removed that language from Steam.

From the Steam forums when asked if a Linux version was coming to GOG after the fix:

"Yip, it is at GOG for review now. They take some time to make sure everything is ok (they actually play the game). I think we should have it up by next week. Ill update this thread once it is there."

https://steamcommunity.com/app/912570/discussions/0/1749024519676236016/?ctp=10

People can say what they will about GOG but they do excel in certain areas over Steam such as in QA on what games are allowed on their store and trying to make sure they work.

Wine 5.6 is out today with Media Foundation additions, more modules converted to PE format

Use PlayOnLinux and you are independet from your Distribution

I used to love PlayOnLinux but they don't update the program much anymore. Lutris seems to update more more frequently. Also I just installed POL as a test and checked which Wine versions I could use and 5.5 was still the newest listed.
