Quoting: PublicNuisanceDo you seriously not know of other games that have released a Windows version on GOG but not the Linux or Mac versions? Are you truly that uninformed?
I was under impression that we were talking about games from Feral Interactive.

Quoting: PublicNuisanceDying Light, Metro 2033 Redux, Metro Last Light Redux, Alice VR, Mafia III, Mafia II, that's all literally what came to mind in a matter of seconds and not a full list.
I also talked about how GOG is not a particularly inviting platform for Linux users or developers.

Sorry, but I am not sure what you mean by Mafia games. They are not on Linux at all, aren't they?

Feral developed the Mac version of Mafia II. My posts have reflected Mac and Linux games because it shows a consistent behavior of platforms other than Windows being kept off DRM free stores by a wide range of publishers and developers. This isn't a Feral problem so much as it is simply a problem that exists and needs to be dealt with. Everyone is too caught up with who should be blamed that few are actually wanting to deal with the issue.

Mafia 2 was ported to Mac by Aspyr, not Feral.

Not according to Steam. Look at the developer and publisher section in the top right hand section of the page. It is also showing on Feral's site. Aspyr did a Mac port to Mafia III though.

Quoting: GuestI have to say I'm a bit torn on this.

Massive kudos for being honest and "not wanting to take money" until Linux is confirmed so that you don't abuse certain backers of yours. That shows respect, and of course is only fair.

However...Unity3D. The whole thing is risky for all of your backers anyway because this is a Kickstarter, but you don't want to hit that export to Linux/Mac button along the way?

Would you rather they be willing to hit that button but not willing to actually support and fix any issues that may arise by hitting that button ? Hitting that export button is just one small part of making as Linux version.

Any progress is good progress. I'm glad that Apple making dumb API decisions isn't harming the Linux version.

Dead Cells, a 'RogueVania' now has a Beta available for Linux

It's good that they're doing this in early access. Hopefully this means the Linux version can see a day 1 release when it goes gold.

One game. Different publishers.

I'm happy to see more games coming to Linux regardless but i'd be lying if I said this what I was hoping the radar blip would turn out to be. Well you can't please everybody. I'll still buy it from Feral's store when I can to support Feral.

Quoting: TheRiddickIf they released GOG Galaxy for Linux, then perhaps things might change a bit. We can only dream.

Do explain why Galaxy is needed for the release of Xcom.

Quoting: LinasWhy is everybody so up in arms about publishers not putting their games on GOG? Sure, DRM-free is important, but they are doing very little, if anything, to push Linux adoption. They have no Linux-compatible client (GOG Galaxy), no easy way to distribute updates, no standardized runtime, don't port their own games to Linux, nothing that would actually invite Linux users and developers.

GOG could become a great alternative to Steam if they actually cared about Linux, but until then Steam is much more Linux-friendly platform run by a much more Linux-friendly company.

1. The issue at hand here is not games not being released on GOG but that Windows versions of games are being released and not the Mac or Linux versions.
2. You say they won't port their own games to Linux but they did have Witcher 2 ported so the correct thing to have said was they don't port all of their games to Linux not that they don't port any at all

Quoting: bgh251f2I would believe that's because there's no clear way to know if a game bought on GOG is being played on Linux, so it would be hard to make the division of profits. The fact that there's no client can't be helping either.

I'm sure they can keep track of whether the user downlaoded the Linux installer or the Windows installer. You don't need a client for that.

Quoting: PublicNuisanceWas skeptical of how much I would like it but I enjoyed that 15 minute session.

It's a really, really good game. It's right up there with Kerbal as my one of my favorite early access game that I ever bought.

Two things that really stood out to me as awesome were how when I jumped down a hill I sprained my ankle and later on when I was reading a book once it got too dark I could no longer read it. Nice subtle touches.
