Life is Strange released for Linux & SteamOS, some thoughts and a port report included
22 July 2016 at 3:11 am UTC

For fun I tried to run this on my HD7950 using Catalyst 15.12 drivers. I could load the main menu but as soon as I started a game I just got a flcikering black screen. This is the same system which ran Life is Strange on Windows at a steady 144 FPS. I expected bad since it's Catalyst drivers on Linux trying to run a Feral port but even Tomb Raider gave me 20 FPS average. To be fair my FPS maxed out was 69-86 during what I can assume was the opening bit of the game but with a flickering black screen it's hard to play.

I have confidence in it being a good game but I hope the Linux version is better optimized than POE.

Hopefully they have a DRM free copy available on release. They do for their other games so there's a good chance there will be with this.

I really hope Buck makes it.

Femida is a game where you play a judge who has to interview different witnesses, defendants, etc and decide if the party is guilty or not. There is a demo available on the page and only 27 hours to go. Even if they don't make it they will try again soon. I'd give the demo a try if it sounds interesting.

Mongrel looks good, i'm waiting to hear back from the developers to see if they plan a DRM free version.

Dear Valve and Steam Machines OEMs, you have it all wrong

Call me a elitist, a purist, etc but I have zero sympathy for those who get duped into buying prebuilt systems. Prebuilt systems, whether Steam Machine, Windows, Mac or consoles are always either overpriced or pieces of crap with trash components. If you want the most out of your investment then you better build it yourself or find someone who can. I for one don't care if Valve correct this or not. People should be putting in more research into what they are spending their hard earned cash on. If they don't they have no one to blame but themselves.
