Roblox intentionally blocking Linux with Wine in their new update

Quoting: legluondunetDevelopers don't want Linux users to play his game, just don't play his game and advertise it.
His game is not important, we have today enough games to play on Linux for more that a human life.
That's true for us in the older crowd, but for the younger set games like this are a big deal, and it'd certainly be good if they can play them on the OS of choice used by the older crowd in their lives.

Proton Experimental for Steam Deck & Linux upgraded with Proton 8

Quoting: ExpandingManI wish these change logs had a little more detail on what the *general* issue was fixed that resulted in a particular game being fixed. The idea that all these little tweaks have to be done for every specific game is terrifying, and makes proton seem totally unsustainable, but I know the real situation must be better than that because of all the non-"playable", never mentioned, and even "unsupported" games that run just fine.
This would be VERY handy.

As it stands currently, for the one or two games I own that have issues under Proton (granted, one of them is a bad port that I'm told is also terrible on Windows, but on Linux it has a few additional issues), I just occasionally check to see if a new Proton release has improved things. Sometimes that's exactly what happens, which tells me that at least some of these fixes (I would actually guess quite a lot of them) have positive knock-on effects for multiple titles.

Quoting: FredOA monumentally important day for Linux gaming and a true sign that Valve have their priorities in good order: PooShooter: Toilet Invaders is playable in Proton.
Yeah! Who wants any of that other crap?!

Steam Deck hitting retail stores in Japan from April 29th, South Korea to follow

As a console expat whose tastes in games were shaped mainly by Japanese output from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, I'm hoping that this will have a positive impact on how devs from the region approach PC ports going forward, especially considering how popular portable devices are in Japan!

System76 launch multiple new powerful Linux laptops

Quoting: Purple Library GuyIt's nice that they're putting out powerful Linux laptops.
But, could somebody maybe do a wimpy Linux laptop? That's more what I'm in the market for.
RIP netbooks. Something along those lines would make a great (and, for my purposes, much more useful) alternative to Chromebooks in this day and age!

Now enter [[[ MICROSOFT AZURE DECK ]]] ... ( / kidding )

Kidding aside, FTA: they act like they're not seriously considering it -- but don't fall for their smoke, mirrors and lies. It's Microsoft -- the AntiHero -- nobody asked for -- to do things -- nobody wanted or needed because it feeds their Narcissism Complex to show up and fuck the party.
As usual, it feels like we've seen this before, doesn't it?

Quoting: CatKillerthe Dreamcast also had an Internet connection (and could run Windows)
It's a common misconception, but the Dreamcast didn't run Windows - it was just compatible with the Windows CE framework, to make porting certain games easier.

Quoting: CatKillerExploiting dominance in one area to crush any competitors coming from a different area is a standard pattern for Microsoft, and the only times they've really failed at it - Android and Chrome - were simply because they weren't willing to outspend Google.
Don't forget the Zune!

Quoting: EikeI didn't expect someone to come along who can read these... symbols! :) Thanks!
Hehe, no problem - glad to help! I only know a very tiny bit of Japanese (without a doubt there'll be other people here on GOL who know far more than I do!), but it's still useful for naming/lore-related stuff like this (sometimes it's the only way to figure out what the intended name was when something gets mistranslated or mangled, or, as is common, when English has multiple different pronunciations and meanings for what appear to be the same words), and for text-light Japan-only games from the old days.

Quoting: EikeI'm struggling with the title. Normally, it would be "live a life", right? What does "live a live" mean?
Looking at the katakana on the original Super Famicom box, the intended pronunciation of both instances of "Live" is how you would say it in the phrase "Live on stage!" (i.e., rhymes with "Hive").

Since the English logo on the same box renders the second "Live" as a mirror-image, I assume that the idea is for "Live A Live" to be read as "Live, Alive" in either direction, but this just might be one of those mysteries of 1990s semi-decorative English in gaming, instead!

Quoting: StoneColdSpiderSadly it uses Denuvo so I wont be buying it anytime soon...... If ever......
Gah, that's not cool!

Quoting: StoneColdSpiderLets hope it doesnt come bundled with Denuvo.....
Aye, indeed... Though the previous two modern Bomberman games didn't, and one of those was a free-to-play online-only title which was very Proton-friendly, so with any luck things'll work out this time, too!

Though RPGs aren't my sort of thing (though from my knowledge of the fan-translation of the original Super Famicom game, this one's definitely an interesting title with a neat story), I'm always glad to see more instances of games being Deck Verified ahead of launch, especially where Japanese devs (who, in my experience, have traditionally been especially prone to releasing badly-behaved PC ports) are concerned.

Fingers crossed that I'll be seeing the same reported here on GOL about Konami's Super Bomberman R 2 (due out in mid-September before too long!
