Steam Summer Sale 2024 is live now

Finally got to take a look at my wishlist - I'll most likely be picking up the emulated Chip's Challenge collection, Distance (which I discovered via the current article on GOL's front-page), and, since I want something unusual as well, probably Cookie Clicker, too, since it's something I've never tried.

Quoting: suchThis sale I'm pretty much joining the New Steam Sales Naysayers in that a lot of the stuff I'm interested in is actually more expensive than it has been in recent sales due to either a price increase, a lower discount, or both. The rest is either not on sale at all, or nowhere near a price point I'd pull the trigger at.
Luckily for me, the sorts of games I enjoy do tend to see pretty steep discounts! There are good deals on most of my wishlist right now.

Quoting: suchAnd if you're coming from Nintendo sales this is still insane deals.
Being a fan of handhelds, that's where I came from (good riddance to them). Nintendo's sales are basically non-existent - not just on their own titles, but on third-party and indie ones as well. It's laughable.

Quoting: WoodlandorWait, when did you start liking Bomberman games?!

Well Pengling has a reputation to uphold......
Haha, very funny, you guys.

There is a Bomberman clone that I've got my eye on (a refugee from the Intellivision Amico scam, called Dynablaster, which was originally the name used for the series in the UK for a few years in the early 1990s; No idea if they'll run into problems for using that name), but it's quite limited and not in this sale, so I won't be picking that up yet.

Oh god, is it that time again already? (She says, even though it's only her second-ever Steam Summer Sale. )

The store is loading REALLY slowly right now, and I've never seen this before!

Blah blah blah... Because it's a sale Pengling is obligated to point out that a Bomberman game is in it... Yadda yadda yadda...

Anyway, I'll post another comment about any pickups once I manage to get my wishlist to load!

Quoting: Linux_RocksEven if they somehow end up Japan only, you'll probably be able to get them from Play-Asia.
Since Hori's store is on Rakuten, you could probably use the Buyee proxy-service, as well.

Steam Game Recording Beta announced - works on Linux and Steam Deck too

Oh this is damn good - it reminds me of the same feature on the Nintendo Switch, though the Steam equivalent is more featureful. Hopefully the clip-on-keypress mode will behave like the aforementioned Switch one, which captures and saves the previous ten seconds or so of gameplay when you press the button; It won't be anywhere near as useful if it only records from the moment it was pressed!

QuoteValve are once again clearly showing why they earn my monies.
I like that they actually invest their cut into features - and ones that I actually use, at that.

Fanatical's Handheld Heroes Bundle has another selection for Steam Deck

Quoting: basedDishonored 2 is a GREAT game, I'd recommend especially to stealth fans!
Funnily enough, I picked that up on its own in Fanatical's sale yesterday (it was a little over £4 at the time), since there wasn't anything else I was after in this new bundle. Good to know it's got some recommendations around here, too!

This is a pretty good sign of the Steam Deck picking up, ahem, steam in Japan - Hori really only does officially-licensed controllers for the big stuff.

The only thing that makes me hesitate, is that Hori has made some controllers that end up with stick-drift since a little way into the life of the Nintendo Switch, so I'll wait for some long-term reviews on these.

Fanatical's Red Hot Sale has thousands of great games for cheap

Quoting: StoneColdSpiderYou forgot to mention how Blender Bros. is related to Bomberman.....
But I mentioned that it was by Hudson Soft, what else can be said?

Anyway, 41p, nice chilled-out short-but-sweet light-hearted puzzle-platformer, where the original cartridges are quite rare and expensive on the secondary market. And it has a wonky translation where one of its combo-animal bosses is called "Shartle"! What more could you want?

I'll just quickly throw in a recommendation for Blender Bros., which is 41p in this sale! It's a little-known Game Boy Advance platformer that came from an Infogrames/Hudson Soft collaboration, which pretty much wasn't promoted for its original release in 2002. It's been re-released as an emulator-wrapped thing by Piko Interactive, who now owns the rights to it.

It's short-but-sweet, and I thoroughly enjoyed playing through it over the weekend - just don't use the included emulator (it's terrible). It's better to pull out the ROM (it's located in the install directory, inside a folder called "res", as a file simply called "game"), rename it and give it a .gba extension, and then use RetroArch, RetroDECK, or whatever you prefer, to play it.
