Valve give update on official Steam Deck Dock, Valve excited for SteamOS on more devices

QuoteThe response in Japan has been "incredibly positive" and they have been spending time talking to Japanese developers about it and the reaction from Japanese developers and publishers "has been immensely, immensely positive".
That's what I like to hear! Hopefully Konami is among those, and hopefully I can keep on hoping for good day-one Linux/Steam Deck support for next year's Super Bomberman R 2, too. After all, it would be a good showcase for local multiplayer on the Steam Deck Dock!

QuoteDon't expect to a see a slimmer Steam Deck in future as Valve mentioned the trade-offs like smaller screens, less battery life and they seem to be very happy with the current ergonomics of it that the size affords like the proper grips on the side noting "We really wanted there to be something that your hands could grip and hold onto for a really long play session.".
This is a big plus. Back when I had a Nintendo Switch I found it to be far too thin to be comfortable to use for long gaming-sessions (and I'm a lass with small hands - it must be way worse for chaps with bigger hands than mine). I've found my GPD Win Max 2021 to be just right, and I'm glad to see that Valve sees things the same way for the Steam Deck and its future descendants.

Oh man, this was some funny viewing! I like a good rhythm-game every now and then so I'll definitely have to look into this one more!

Valve had the official Steam Deck Docking Station at TGS, plus other TGS bits

This said, I tried connecting an external ssd through my docking station... I had to configure fstab and I had to turn off the Steam Deck completely everytime I wanted to dock/undock the Steam Deck, else I had to redo the whole Steam configuration (it didn't remember the external ssd)... It was not really plug & play.

Did Valve do something about it?

It was quite... Unserviceable, imo.
I wonder if that's a contributing factor to the delay of the official dock?

Quoting: Liam DaweI've added the list of what was playable from the official press release I was sent.
Thanks much - that tells me exactly the sort of thing that I want to know.

Do we know if they were showcasing any particular Deck Verified games on the docked units, or if visitors were free to try out whatever was installed? Since I was a consoles person for such a long time my tastes often lean towards the output of Japanese devs, so I'm really curious about how they're marketing the Steam Deck in Japan and surrounding countries. The brief video-clip and that booklet they published previously gave a little bit of insight, but I'd love to know more!

EA AntiCheat could spell trouble for Steam Deck / Linux

Quoting: revliscanoHuh, really? That would be awesome! But why would EA wanted to get rid of one of its most successful IPs?
Quoting: EhvisBecause they believe that the players will stay with them for their gameplay with shitty macrotransactions even if they don't have real names in there. That way they could keep a boat load of money for themselves. I'm not so sure.
It was because the licensing costs went up.

QuoteEA’s plan to rebrand their FIFA game series, as well as end their partnership with the association has been rumored since last October, reportedly because the association was asking to increase their licensing cost to $1 billion for each World Cup cycle.

Hell, even some of the good ones were unwieldy.

Perhaps it's just me, but in my books they meet the exact definition of it. It's like nobody learned from the music industry's Windows rootkit nonsense 20-odd years ago, or something.
