YouTube thought my Steam Deck video was 'harmful and dangerous'

If anyone else here enjoys food-science and debunking videos, they might already know of something similar that happened to a video by a food-scientist/debunking expert called Ann Reardon recently, who warned about and explained the science behind a lethal "craft hack" found all over YouTube that's on record as having killed dozens of people around the world at the time of writing.

It got quite high up in the search results for the dangerous topic, thus acting as a warning, but was then suddenly removed by YouTube, who left the many dangerous tutorial videos up, and removed the debunking video for being "harmful and dangerous"! It was down for several days, which affected its placement in searches and promotions, thanks to The Algorithm. (I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but I admit that this one made me raise an eyebrow considering how profitable "craft hacks" videos are known to be. )

Obviously, in this case with Liam's video we can laugh at how stupid it is and I'm sure that the video's gaming subject-matter will help get it back on track more easily post-reinstatement, but this is why better human reviewing is needed, because it's also happening with actually-dangerous topics that those who don't know better can easily gain access to. As one of the viewers of the creator I previously mentioned, I feel obliged to note that YouTube has policies against life-endangering pranks but not against life-endangering "craft hacks", and I can tell you from experience with my younger relatives that kids search for easy arts and crafts on YouTube all the time.

Covert Critter is basically Metal Gear Solid with lizards

Quoting: EikeI can recommend the original MSX-2 Metal Gear from 1987.
Thanks for the recommendation! I must admit, that's right up my alley too and it's actually been on my to-do list for a while - ever since I watched a rather fun YouTube series by video game historian Jeremy Parish, where he mapped out the (unfortunately altered) NES version of Metal Gear, and some other games, by hand whilst playing through it and providing various bits of commentary. I really need to get to it sometime soon! It'll probably be the next thing (after Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy) that I put into the rotation alongside my ongoing Bomberman marathon to keep things fresh.

Quoting: GuestHow long before they have to change visuals due to cease and desist?
Other games have used and/or parodied the visuals of Metal Gear Solid before, and as far as I know nothing happened in those cases, so hopefully this one will be fine too.

Quoting: GuestAlso what lizard species will be used to have the same "ring" or tongue roll as "SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!"? I mean off the top of my head Salamander is close...but not.
Apparently, this lizard chap is called Koss. I'm not sure if it has the same ring to it, though.

Quoting: sarmadHow could this be developed in 12 days (as the trailer suggests)? Is there already some open source MGS engine that they used?
Going by the linked Itch.io page for the demo, it seems that that version was made for a game jam.

Ee! I loved the first Metal Gear Solid and I strongly lean towards games with cute aesthetics, so this looks right up my alley.

They've really nailed the look, too, even down to the dithering, and the character-designs work really well within the chosen constraints.

Axiom Verge 2 lands on Steam with Linux support and Steam Deck Verified

Quoting: canichangemyusernamelaterquestioIn other words: Linux gamers are customers waiting to be grabbed/served, you just have to support their platform. If you cede this customers over to your competitor, you have only yourself to blame.

Maybe I’m wrong. What do I know? These are just my thoughts on the subject.
I don't think that you're wrong - what you've described here is what happens at the beginning of market disruption. Linux users are currently part of what would be called the "crappy products for crappy customers" phase - that is to say, we're the tiny market that nobody wants to bother with, and even though we're ripe for the picking the other options are still largely ignoring us even though nothing is stopping them.

If you've ever read about the "Blue Ocean Strategy" (something that was popularised by the Nintendo Wii, which took this approach), what I'm paraphrasing is stuff from that.

Quoting: canichangemyusernamelaterquestioNow convince me that it was a mistake to register on this site. Haha :D
Looks like you're one of us, now.

And hopefully said Joy-Cons won't break just from looking at them funny.

Quoting: no_information_here"...no special acceleration added to the character..."

Anyone able to explain this to me?
I'm not sure, but my best guess is that they're not doing something akin to Super Mario Bros., where it takes a brief time to reach full-speed when running.

Valve teams with Komodo to bring the Steam Deck to Asia

Hopefully the trend of big Japanese developers like Square-Enix paying due heed to the Steam Deck will continue alongside this. Admittedly I really want this to be the case personally because of Konami's upcoming Super Bomberman R 2 being on Steam day-and-date with the consoles this time (it's due out sometime in 2023 - I'd guess mid-year to coincide with the series' 40th anniversary in July), but it's obviously a big step for a platform like the Deck to compete with the likes of the Nintendo Switch as well, which has the backing of a lot of those devs.

Actually, on that note, does anyone know how Valve's fees/requirements/etc. compare with those of the major console manufacturers? That's another interesting part of the same picture, for me.

This one's not for me, but I must say that it's excellent seeing more big releases like this going out there with Steam Deck/Linux compatibility on or before day one. It gives me a lot of hope for the future!

Quoting: TcheyLike, Close = "fermer" when it should be "proche", or the opposite. Or, Character being "Caractère" when it should be "Personnage". Or some shortcuts like, End for Endurance, becomes "Fin".
Obligatory link about the pitfalls of bad localisations.

QuoteI once did a translation about a space ship simulator - in this context space is translated as ruimte (space as in universe). The client copied and pasted the word ruimte to a message popping up every 3 seconds, instructing the user to press SPACE (as in space bar) to jump, without consulting me beforehand. The result was that the user was instructed to press the universe every so many seconds.
