GOG finally remove the false "in progress" note about GOG Galaxy for Linux

Quoting: scaineFour of the top 13 I snipped there relate to FOSS or Linux. So 30% of items that will never happen despite a combined total of 62000 votes. With another 30% of them complete already, the rest of the items, combined, amount to 61000 votes.

You know, maybe they have millions of customers. But repeat customers? I doubt it.

And maybe there's overlap in the votes, so they're downplaying it? You can see that I voted on two of the Linux items (they're in orange), at least. But still - if GOG released a Linux client, I'm pretty sure they'd be guaranteed AT LEAST 33K new customers. The synergy between anti-DRM and Linux users is pretty big. I'd be supportive and I think if you care enough to vote on a tracker like this, those others care too.

But I've spent over TEN TIMES more on the Steam summer sale in one week than I have on GOG in over eight YEARS. Because they don't have a Galaxy client.
Quoting: Nociferthey're just a business that saw a great chance and took advantage of it, and in the process of taking advantage of it have managed to show more respect towards both their customers and the open source community at large than any other tech company of the same caliber, ever.
Come to think of it, these points remind me of the "Crappy products for crappy customers." (i.e., catering to consumers that few companies want to bother with, but which would create a bigger market if someone tried to feed it) phase of disruption in business; I think it was part of the "Blue Ocean" strategy, but it's been many years since I read up on it so I may be misremembering its origin. It's a real pity that GOG didn't go for it (in their early days, I thought they eventually would), because they definitely had that connection with the Linux market right out of the gate.

Linux share on Steam hits highest peak in years thanks to Steam Deck

Quoting: CatKillerI don't know about all the flavours, but Kubuntu has Ubuntu as its LSB name.
Oops! I thought that Xubuntu used "Xubuntu" for the LSB name, but it turns out that it uses Ubuntu as well.

Thanks so much for the clarification.

Quoting: CyborgZetaWhat I find interesting is not just how high SteamOS Holo is already, but how Ubuntu is noticeable dethroned from the top. It doesn't feel like that long ago that Ubuntu still topped the list.
It still does: it's at 19.63%. This is just the transition period between 20.04 and 22.04, with 20.04 users not being automatically offered the upgrade to 22.04 until 22.04.1 has been released.
And I presume that the "Other" category also includes some of the other Ubuntu flavours, as well, unless they roll those in with regular Ubuntu?

Quoting: jensbut in my opinion they support Linux, but just passively and not actively like Valve. I guess reasons are of simple economical nature. GOG is certainly not anti-Linux and still deserves it’s place in the Linux gaming world.
I think that this is the issue I have with GOG - it's not a big deal for me, just an occasional nitpick. I do still buy there because there are games they have that, as far as I know, Steam doesn't, but their Linux support seems to be a bit scattergun and I'd go there more often if it wasn't.

For example, they've got a whole lot of classic MS-DOS titles, but they inexplicably aren't all available with the Linux DOSBox wrapper. Of course you can get around this with Innoextract (which I learned of from some of the folks here on GOL) but that's an extra step that you don't always have to take. It just feels odd to me that it's inconsistent and sometimes mildly inconvenient.

Some Steam Decks ship with an x2 SSD instead of an x4 SSD

Quoting: BeamboomAnd it's been like this since forever. I recall home computers back in the 80s when we had a ball tinkering with those things: The same model could even have different chipsets on the motherboard. All depending on what production line it came out of.
Sometimes even the LEDs were different, even down to there being different shades of what was ostensibly the same colour. I wonder if anyone was ever upset to get the lime-green LED instead of the darker green one?

AOKZOE are the latest to attempt a Steam Deck rival with the AOKZOE A1

Quoting: randylIt's an Xbox controller layout style. The joysticks are asymmetric with the A, X, Y, B to the upper right and an actual D-Pad to the lower right. Sorry the images are so big. I couldn't figure out how to resize them with this forum code.
That ok. I do know what type of layout it is (and I favour it personally) - I was just referring to the physical stick parts themselves.

Quoting: CatKillerbecause it's got the janky asymmetric sticks.
It's a little hard for me to see so I could well be mistaken (and hope I am), but they also look an awful lot like Nintendo Switch sticks, which are misdesigned such that they break super-easily if you breathe in their general direction. If they're using aftermarket Switch sticks (and some of these handhelds do - it's the only flaw of some of the ARM-Linux Anbernic handhelds, for example), then you'd have to open this thing up to replace the sticks every handful of months.

But this looks like it could be fun too.
Given its inspiration, that goes without saying.

Low-poly 3D rail shooter Ex-Zodiac hits Early Access on July 21st

Oh man, this is exactly what I've been missing! I loved the SNES Star Fox titles and still revisit them often, and with the series left to rack and ruin for years, this should be just the trick. The zodiac idea sounds like it should be fun, too.
