Halo: The Master Chief Collection broke on Linux and Steam Deck, here's a quick fix
13 April 2022 at 4:51 pm UTC
After getting hit by an account-related bug in the console version of Minecraft that caused the random loss of a bunch of promotional/purchased skins/maps/etc., with only an unofficial workaround that requires logging into the Microsoft Windows or Xbox versions, neither of which I have access to, I've been playing MineClone 2 instead and have been enjoying it plenty.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPI really hope you don't like Minecraft
Quoting: FrawoI tried the game on the free weekend, too - and had the same issue. At least we've got Minetest + MineClone 2 as an option, there. Unfortunately we can't say the same for Halo!

Raspberry Pi OS gets some big updates, possible to run experimental Wayland

That said, I just use Class 10 SanDisk microSD Cards with the RPi4 (just 32GB ones due to price and availability - nothing fancy), and I find it perfectly usable, with pretty fast boot-times, though I usually just leave it on since it's so stable and uses a small amount of electricity. I've been very impressed by what it offers for the price, though your mileage may vary. For expanded storage, I just hook up a USB hard-drive when I need it; The speed benefits of SSDs are sometimes a bit lost on someone who grew up with having to wait for data to load in from cassette-tapes, so I don't need any of those yet.
Also, as mirv notes above, the power-savings are notable. If you've got no need for a super-powerful day-to-day machine for standard practical computing tasks, I would recommend looking into it - they have enough demand for it that they now offer a 1980s-inspired all-in-the-keyboard unit in addition to the traditional bare PCB versions.

Quoting: mt7479How usable is this with browser Stuff, youtube other video portals and how is the boot time or did youI'll preface this by noting that, for a geek, I have surprisingly light daily computing requirements that (internet stuff aside) haven't changed much since my days with the Commodore 64. Word-processing, image-editing, web-browsing, listening to music (usually via YouTube; I don't know about other video sites, as it just hasn't come up), that sort of thing - an 8GB Raspberry Pi 4 is overkill for that, so I'd never use a more powerful machine at my desk anymore because it's wasteful. (The gaming machine in my profile is a GPD Win Max 2021 running Xubuntu, which doubles as my laptop. Portable gaming is my thing, not desk-based gaming.)
hook up a usb disk ?

Quoting: kaimanThe cutscenes in TGAAC can be made to work with some native DLLs, as per these instructions. Using that workaround, I played start to finish with no issues. Thanks so much, brilliant stuff - I'll have to grab it soon!

I use Xfce on everything else, so I might just cut my losses and install that, since lxpanel's fragility in Raspberry Pi OS was already proving to be a random annoyance for a while anyway.

Quoting: Liam DaweYeah their upgrade process could do with improvements. Last time I did the audio didn't work, took half an hour to find a fix <_<My desktop machine is a Raspberry Pi 4 and this update kind of broke lxpanel for me - it now only covers a third of my monitor and just randomly cuts off there, and I still haven't figured out what on Earth the problem is, since the settings and config file are identical to before and I haven't found anyone else reporting similar yet (all I get is results for unrelated issues like panel items randomly disappearing).

YES! I love Duck Game in all its insanity (previously played it on the Switch), and this is exactly what I've been waiting for before grabbing it on Steam. \/ QUACK!
@flesk - That would make it even better.

GPD are getting quite desperate against the Steam Deck

I've got a couple of GPD devices (GPD MicroPC, and GPD Win Max 2021) - they're nice machines and both run Xubuntu (my favoured distro) excellently. However, when they reach the end of their working lives years down the line, I won't be considering GPD again - this bad conduct has put me off. Hopefully the Steam Deck opening up this market to the masses will lead to some other company offering mini-sized gaming laptops with built-in controls by then!
Kitsune Zero DLC announced for Super Bernie World

Quoting: scaineYeah, I only get a bunch of Japanese kitsune/fox references/imagery too - tried searching "kitsune", "kitsune tails" and kitsune zero". Did you mis-spell a search or something? What on earth did you search for??I guess that it's about the "Guaranteed 100% free from American electoral politics" bullet-point? But upon looking up the base game, Super Bernie World actually *is* about American politics, so I also don't get what it is that the developers apparently failed to search beforehand...
Coromon is pretty much Pokemon for the Steam Deck

Nuzlockes are quite fun to watch even if the game itself isn't one's cup of tea, so even if I don't end up playing this one it's quite likely that I'll end up watching it at some point, because it's sure to get the attention of a bunch of streamers.

Quoteif a creature in your party faints in this mode, it will leave you. They call this a "Nuzlocke" playthrough in Pokemon parlance, and I suspect that this feature isn't likely to end up in any official titles because it goes against some of the brand's conventions even though it's a fun idea gameplay-wise.

RetroDECK is another solution for emulation gaming on Steam Deck

Nice to hear that it's forked from 351ELEC - I use that on my Anbernic RG351MP (a little ARM-Linux handheld aimed at emulation and source-ports), and for me it's proven to be the best custom firmware for that hardware, with an excellent user-experience. I don't have a Steam Deck, but it's sure to absolutely fly on there!
