Quoting: STiATAs far as I can say (16 hours played), if you like old school CRPGs, go for it. I am eagerly waiting to go home from work to play again .. and ye, I didn't sleep much tonight :).

16 hours played??? Not bad going considering it was released yesterday. I played 4 hours last night though, and turned it on when I got home from work today. It's the game I've been waiting for ages and I'm not disappointed.

In other words, I left early yesterday, did sleep only an hour, went late to work and went home after 5 hours again :D. Good I got no fixed hours and a lot of over hours I can trade in :).

But at 23 hours, I've to go to get some sleep now, the game is good, but that's certainly not healthy :D.

Quoting: GuestI tried it too, looks like the kinda game that sucks away days of your life, leaving you with no regrets. I have to mentally prepare myself before playing that shit.

I had the tearing issue as well, but I can't seem to play it on my Linux rig (it seems like my GTX 550-Ti fires off all its guns as soon as I run any opengl application and starts heating like crazy with the fans sounding like jet engines above 70% speed; I tried reducing the fan sppeed to something sane but considering temps were rising despite 70% fan speed I decided it wasn't even worth trying, something as simple as Krita (2D rendering) will even fire up the turbines...)

I wonder if it would be more sane on nouveau drivers...

And yeah, I've had problems with unity games as well, performance dip issues in Linux that were non-existent in Windows, or performance drops at an earlier point than I normally would have had them in windows (with a high number of loaded objects on-screen that is)

Hopefully soon we can just forget about unity ever having existed and everyone will be using UE4.

I'm playing on a GTX550 with an i7 (2012) without troubles, and I'd really look at my own config if that's what you're experiencing, since it certainly is not normal. For the tearing: I don't get any tearing at all, but I seem to be the only one without tearing :D.

Unity is very much about how well it's optimized for Linux. A lot of them only export / cross compile for linux, and forget about testing, qa, and optimization (which is true for every other engine as well). Just because a lot of games with other technology obviously did better ports does not necessarily mean that Unity can't do that.

I'm sure for the issues we see, that Obsidian will be reacting on those things in time. Overall, it runs very smooth on my rig, which is not really a new one ;-).

Even on my old system (gtx 550, i7) I get steady 60 fps now, which makes me think if it's vsync :D.

Quoting: neowiz73.... The one aspect of Blizzard that I do appreciate is that they do make it a point to try and make their games playable in wine. ...

That's entirely untrue. There was just a lot of demand for the popular Blizzard-Games (WoW), why the community put a lot of effort there to get it running properly.

I did play WoW in the past in Linux, but I am now in the comfortable position not to need to pay a Company any longer who only puts their titles on Windows, since we do get games here to play - no biggie.

Even though, I still have a Windows 7 image for lan parties, I don't buy new windows only titles. Why? Because I'm stubborn too :D.

If they want my money, they port it, if they don't port it, they obviously don't want it, and therefore don't get it. I'm even tempted with the thing somebody said before: If they don't support us in Linux, just crack it. But I decided I won't become a dickhead and don't pay people for the work they do when I do want to play the game, and in the end, there is no game that I consider worth it.

Why Are We Still Dual Booting?
13 March 2015 at 9:04 am UTC

- Why do you dual boot?
I don't

- Do you see yourself first as a gamer, then as a Linux user?
Linux user

- Are the 1000+ games on Steam and hundreds more on other sites still not enough for you to be a 100% Linux gamer?
Too many, ain't got enough time to play all games I want and which get released.

- If you feel so passionately about Linux that you’ll take questionable actions to defend it, then why not do the most simple thing and stop gaming on Windows?
I did.

- As someone with a tendency towards a specific genre, do you feel the current Linux suggestion doesn't cater to your gaming needs?
Well, MMOs are still lacking, but we'll get SotA.

I stopped dual booting and using wine some time ago.

I am glad to see Linux ports, and I'll support the companies doing them with my money. Despite the fact that I can't stand the "fiddeling" around getting games running decently on wine, and I don't own a windows copy :D.

We're even getting a MMORPG with SotA if that's what you like, and we're getting some nice RTS games in future too as it seems, we have dungeon crawlers like Torchlight 2. I don't see a particular reason to throw my money at companies who produce Windows only Games which are considerable hard to play on linux! Though, I do love StarCraft and always will, even when I can't play it anymore :).

I very much expected this. Though, a hint of a marketshare when they consider re evaluating would would have been nice, I guess we gotta' go with what we get. I still think it is not the best way to evaluate a potential customer number out of web browsing statistics (I think valve could tell them pretty well the number of potential rpg/mmorpg/rts players inlinux).

But the market changes, maybe we will see them change their mind in future. At least they say that they are watching and are willing to re-evaluate in future.
