HORI Steam Controller releases in the USA in December
6 November 2024 at 9:20 pm UTC Likes: 1

Quoting: RavenWingsLooks alright, but its time for Valve to release the Deck-controls as a standalone-controller. Everything else just feels backwards at this point.

That awkward moment you realize your Full & TKL [ QWERTY Keyboards ] have the [ Navigation Cluster ] and [ Number Pad ] on the right side and your OCD starts ticking up

( To be fair you can get Southpaw but it's still not symmetrical ( https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/search?q=southpaw )

--

I'll be the black sheep in the thread, I literally bought 4 DS4 controllers partially because I thought symmetrical was better, and in protest to buying Microsoft products and after what 10 years on Linux my ranking is this:

DS4 < XBONE <= Steam Controller < Steam Deck + Wifi as Controller

--

So regarding the HORI Controller, 59.99 seems like a good deal compared against 399.99 for a Steam Deck as a Controller -- but I wish Valve would just do a Controller App that links up over Bluetooth or whatever like Steam Link & Steam Controller.

Seeing as how this includes L3 R3 (On the front as M1 M2) and L4 R4 it looks like it's worth a test drive & shot (at least before buying 2, 3 or 4)

QuoteUnreal Engine 5

Instantly turned off. I mean I know this is a fangame, but anyhthing Half-Life not on Source feels so wrong.

Yep! Built with the engine from the company that vowed (and failed) to destroy Steam perceived "monopoly".

Thank you, but no thank you.

I Can't Believe It's Not ~~Butter~~ Source Engine.

Yeah No. Unreal Engine is a deal breaker because Source Games have details that are mathematically authentically Valve suchas the lighting flicker interval and variations, mathematical interval variations of electrical shocks, sounds, and other content.

Without this DNA deep down this might as well just be a Fan Fiction novel or Fan Art.

I wish them well but I think they have a long way to go to right the ship.

Edit: To clarify, as I understand it these mathematical flickers are patented by Valve, therefore it's not legal for anyone to implement them outside of Source engine. So therefore by design it will never feel authentic.

Engine's really matter. If they suddenly changed the physics of the Warthog in Halo, or the mechanics of Super Mario Bros 1 it would completely annihilate player expectations on a subconscious level. This isn't just some kind of AAA cash grab either where your favorite franchises are ruined and the point was for the publisher to extract money from your wallet -- I just can't see anything that has the Mechanics wrong from the get-go having a chance. I get that they probably just like Unreal, and it has value in the work force -- but without the patented attention to details I think the whole thing will feel unauthentic and unsettling.

This game got me through some rough times, I'm glad to see it has reached so many people and given them entertainment & joy.

Games like these are prime examples that many people want fantasy, and to be immersed in worlds that diverge from our own.

Black Mesa has a new Beta with 'WAY better' support for Linux / Steam Deck

To clarify from earlier -- I selected the drop-down [ "public-beta" ] in the Black Mesa < Launch Options >

At least on AMD RX 7900 XTX I can report that the dark "tent" issues in Xen appear to be fixed. I haven't tested on AMD RX 5500 where I encountered the issue prior.

I did notice on the "2nd level" of Interloper there were still some graphical glitches like "ghost vertexes" but from memory they used to be much much worse.

So all in all I would report that this is a substantial step forward.

There were some other issues on a desert helicopter outdoor field area too (previously, haven't checked again) -- I'm really excited to do another play-though, I recently beat HL2 for the first time and it was revolutionary considering I didn't have a powerful enough computer to play when it came out in 20XX.

EA / Respawn now block Apex Legends from running on Linux and Steam Deck

Having thought about this more I think the appropriate decision should have been:

OPT IN

Having a Ultimatum instead of Opting-In is so unprofessional of them. Also someday maybe they'll get themselves into trouble for discriminating and classifying entire groups of people as "bad" and "cheaters".

This Low-IQ-Logic is a epidemic on modern culture. Entire groups of people are pre-judged, often by people and groups who would put a halo over their heads and self acclaim to be saints.

The Modern Dark Age Mind.

EA:

Adding Insult to Injury.

I'm still not convinced that behind closed doors there are not nefarious forces cock-blocking Linux. Adobe. EA. Epic (Rocket League) and others -- there is ZERO logic behind their actions.

Hostilities against things they dont like and blame shifting their shitty programming as if computing were a politics.

But hey, just like businesses mixing with politics has lead to companies go out of business -- lets make it happen.

Lets do our part to help EA go out of business unless they walk this back.

I'm doing my part.

Awesome! Time for another play-through. I really hope they fixed the black texture artifacting in the second half of the game on AMD + MESA. The last bit was previously unplayable.

Reasons like these are why I continue to patron Steam and make it rain . No other store even comes close.

(GOG is my second favorite. After the Internet is cancelled over "The New Red Scare" I'll happily be playing my mountain of games offline for quite some time.
