Imo proton and vk are among the best things (if not the best) that could happen (and happened) to linux gaming in the past years. I recently started playing kc:d via steam, which uses proton. I have 50+ hours now and i cant complain. It just works great (for me). I love it.
Sure. But transitioning from "no tux, no bucks" to "no tux, bucks" will take a few year more for me before feeling natural.

Witch store did you use

Quoting: amataiCould you do store statistics again ? That was very interesting and that would let see the big trend. I'm very curious about the relative result of GoG vs Steam and Steam vs 3rd market store and how many Linux User use Epic + Wine (still have not dare doing that despite the free games, I'm still shy about using proton too extensively).
Not opposed to it but it would need careful wording, since this is something that people don't update every month.

Happy to take suggestions.

"Which store did you use last year" maybe ? Or in the last 3 month. Or In "Which store would you consider buying game". The updating stuff makes the wording very important.
Maybe it's a statistic to do yearly during the Gaming On Linux award. Aside from which is your favorite game of the year asking how many games do you purchase this year and in which store.

Free and open source voxel game engine Minetest 5.4 is out, makes mods easier for users

I had a revelation when I understand that Minetest is not a game but an open source engine like Godot or Ogre. I'm looking forward the creation of STR, racing game, FPS and all on Minetest

Is opening up your source code worth it? Terry Cavanagh thinks it was for VVVVVV

The licence basicaly says "if you make money with this give us a share" wich is okayish for me.
I have more tolerance for commercial stuff having open but not OSI or FSF licence -it probably wouldn't be open otherwise- than for non commercial code that don't have an OSI or FSF licence.

Valve dev clarifies what some of their upcoming and recent Linux work is actually for

Quoting: rustybroomhandleI still want to know what the mission is with all of this. Not technically, but from a business perspective.

I get it, Linux customers are paying customers, but Valve have contracted several companies, individuals, fulltime employees, contact with GPU vendors etc. This seems like way more financial and time investment than what our meagre 1-2% is worth.
1-2% of Valve revenue is still something like 25 to 50 millions dollars. I suppose that pay for a few fulltime employees

Beamdog need testers for major updates to Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition

Quoting: mos
Quoting: amataiYou can play the original game with GemRB
And probably get yourself a vastly inferior experience (judging by lately trying IWD2 with gemrb; yes I do know, but still).
Having to bother with installing widescreen and other weidu stuff and generally tinker with a 20 yo release and still not to make it work remotely as smooth as EEs is somewhat.. discouraging.
BG is not IWD. I had taken less than 10 minutes compiling and configuring stuff then I have starded playing (I used the DVD version of BG) with fullscreen and stuff. There is not so much improvement from EE beside multiplayer. It's like having one or two mods defaut in the base game. (I have still bought it to play multi with friends)

Quoting: kaimanI'd buy those games on the spot if only they were compatible with the original save games. Even though I've spent countless hours on BG1 and BG2, I never actually finished either of them. But I still have save data from some old backups dating back to 1999 and 2003 respectively. If I could pop those into the new edition instead of having to dig out the old CDs and fiddle around to get the games installed and running eventually I would have done so for quite a while now.

But the prospect of starting anew is somewhat discouraging. I had finished Planescape: Torment back in the day, so it was less of an issue to revisit that in form of the EE, and I loved it! But with Baldur's Gate I really don't see this happening any time soon.

You can play the original game with GemRB. I have done that myself to finish my run before doing a new run in EE.

What have you been gaming on Linux recently? Come have a chat

Some itch.io games from the big bundle. I may buy a controller for them. Maybe the switch one.

Out of the depth but I don't understand much. It commes out of early access yesterday or something like that so I decided to give it a try.

Amoung Us (Proton) with friends. I don't think that the game deserve that much attention, but, hey, I can't keep relationship with 9 friend that I were slowly loosing so that's nice I guess
