Delores: A Thimbleweed Park Mini-Adventure now has a Linux Beta

I gave it a quick try yesterday. It's working fine for me with Intel+Mesa, but is having issues with Nvidia on the same latop. Others report similar issues, but it seems like new updates are rolled out quickly, so hopefully it will be in good shape soon.

I'm also very happy to see that Ron Gilbert is sticking with Linux. He's such a well-known and respected developer that the ripple effect of his switch could be substantial among indie game developers.

Deleveled is a clever platformer with no jump button where you use bouncing momentum

Quoting: no_information_hereI appreciate you highlighting these smaller indie games. Lots of hidden gems out there.

I also appreciate that. Deleveled was one of three "big" puzzle releases on Thursday, that was talked about quite a lot in a puzzle game Discord server I'm in; the other ones being The Golem and A Monster's Expedition. The developer of The Golem is hoping to put up a Linux version on Itch.io in the near future.

Quoting: SuperGripThis weekend started replaying "This is the Police", it's not a very popular game but I quite like it.

It has more than 6000 user reviews and a "very popular" rating on Steam.

For comparison, the last Deponia game, which also came out in 2016, only has about a quarter as many user reviews, and is from a relatively well-known franchise.

Not trying to be argumentative, but making a point that a game can be considered popular even though it's not mainstream.

And even if it isn't, don't feel bad for liking a game that most people don't like.

:) Yeah, you're right, it is popular. I got a number of the Deponia games free sometime back but have not yet tried it, how would you rate the series?

I'm not the biggest fan of the writing and characters, but they have some nice puzzles of the classic adventure game variety.

Quoting: PublicNuisanceItch really deserves more praise then they get. They are one of only two open source clients for Linux. GOG never released a Linux client; Steam won't open source their Linux client or their engines; Epic won't make a Linux client. So many Linux users seem to want to use a client but pass up the one that goes the extra mile and open sources their work.

Also worth mentioning that the other one is the Game Jolt client, in case someone doesn't know.

Download: https://gamejolt.com/client
Source: https://github.com/gamejolt/gamejolt

They also have an upload client, similar to Itch's Butler: https://github.com/gamejolt/cli

It wasn't as convenient to use with CI/CD the last time I used it (for a game jam). That was a couple of years ago though, so it might have matured in the meantime.

Judging by the commit history, it doesn't look like Amos has left at all.

Quoting: The_AquabatDesperados III, just played four missions I can sense it's going to be a MASTERPIECE!

Agreed. I thought Shadow Tactics was great already, but they've outdone themselves with the amount of "juice" and polish they've added to this game.

I've been really torn between Desperados III and Spiritfarer recently, since I'm enjoying both so much, and I'm having a hard time putting either of them down.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleYikes, another one to file under "Too 'spensive, I can't afford this"

Yeah, it definitely ain't cheap, but I spent 30+ hours on Shadow Tactics (without replaying for badges), which is about ten times more time than I spend on most games, so I still think it's good value for money. Plus this one's even more packed with content, from what I've heard. I hope it goes on sale eventually though, so more people can afford it.

Quoting: EikeI loved the original Desperados. Now I tried to play Shadow Tactics, but somehow...
I cannot stand the genre anymore. :-(

I had the complete opposite experience this summer: After finishing Shadow Tactics (in a hotel in Arendal (which inspired Arendell of the Frozen movies)), I tried to play the original Desperados (which is also available for Linux), but I just couldn't get into it. The levels didn't feel nearly as tightly designed, it felt as though there was little or no consequence for messing up, and I missed not being able to play with a gamepad. It must be a matter of taste.

I bought the deluxe edition, which includes the season pass, the moment I heard about the update. As Liam wrote, it wasn't possible to install immediately, but I now have a 9.3 GB download in my queue. It's going to be difficult to choose between this game and Spiritfarer though, now that I've gotten majorly invested into that.
