Quirky comedy point and click adventure 'Sol 705' is out now for Linux PC

Yes, it's on Steam now, and it seems to work without issues. Except, occasionally there are lines of dialogue which are not voiced, but I'm guessing that's not platform specific. Also, I don't think I got notifications for the achievements I unlocked, but that might be something I've turned off.

I also agree that it's disappointing when the Linux version is not put on Steam for whatever reason. Part of the reason I back crowdfunding campaigns, is because I want Linux to be seen as a more viable gaming platform. That doesn't work when the game missing from the most popular game store.

I backed the Kickstarter campaign for this one, and just tried to install and play it on Steam. However, it doesn't appear to be working currently, as nothing is installed. Until that's fixed, it's probably best to buy it from itch.io.

EDIT: The issue on Steam seems to have been fixed.

There's however a load of warnings in the user review section that the developers are not updating the game on GOG. So while it is on my wishlist, I'm somewhat reluctant to buy a possibly outdated version...

Would you have any info on that?
After a little confusion because of the silly version numbers (they added more 11s), the GOG version is currently not up to date for any system.

The last bullet-point in the announcement mentions that the update will be rolled out on GOG once they've verified that it's stable.

I already have multiple copies of all of their Linux games, but I had no idea GNOG has a Linux version. According to this thread, it seems to work fine, but needs a symlink to launch the correct binary from the Steam client:

Quoting: fleskI'm also having the crash on launch with Nvidia graphics that is mentioned in the article, and I have no idea how to enable Vsync. The game works well with Intel graphics though, although only on low graphics settings, which doesn't look all that great. Still enjoying the game a lot so far though, and I've just gotten into the city.
It's should be a clearly labelled option in the main menu.

But when it crashes on launch, how do you even get to the menu to enable it?

Go to ~/.config/Epic/BASS2/Saved/Config/LinuxNoEditor/GameUserSettings.ini and add the value bUseVSync=True under [/Script/RevUtil.RevUtilGameUserSettings]

Thanks for the tip. However, it turned out that bUseVSync was already set to True for me, and that it was most likely an unrelated issue. I've always been having various issues with Vulkan games on this computer, and after neither upgrading my drivers from 440 to 450 nor upgrading Ubuntu from 18.04 to 20.04 made any difference, I decided to do a complete re-install, and switched to Pop!_OS in the process (which I've been considering doing for a while). After doing that, the game worked without issues, and I even have GPU render offloading out of the box, which is something I've been dreaming of since I ditched Bumblebee many years ago.

Quoting: LinasInterestingly enough, I once had a chat with an actual trucker who tried getting into Euro Truck Simulator 2, and it made him feel in a similar way. I guess just because you love your work, it doesn't mean that you want more "work" when you play a game.

I read a report about these simulation games (some are incredibly successful, AFAIR, farming simulator has sold more copies than GTA V in the year the latter came out) and they are often played by people working in the simulated job. It might be a different thing for farmers than programmes, they can drive fancy vehicles they'll never get a hand on in real life. I considered that strange... until I found myself (as a software developer) playing through TIS-100, Human Resource Machine, Seven Billion Humans, ...

I also work as a developer, and I also enjoy programming games. I think the reason is similar to what you describe with the farmers, that these games represent something you normally don't experience at your day job. At work, a large proportion of my time is spent talking to product owners and business people to understand what needs to be done, with planning and testing functionality, and writing documentation. Whereas with these games, you can just get down to the fun part of it, without any of the tedious stuff you normally do at work.

Quoting: fleskEDIT: It seems like the additional 10% discount is only applied if you bought Broken Sword 5 from Steam, and not if you got a key for backing the Kickstarter campaign. I'm not sure if that's working as intended or not, but for me it's totally worth it anyway for a game I've been wanting to play for years.
I see 20% in store, but the extra discount is applied in cart. Final price is 20.99€ for me. My BS5 came in the Humble Classics Return Bundle, so buying from Steam shouldn't be a requirement.

I won't buy this yet, but I definitely will when I've played through some of the adventure games in my backlog.

According to my purchase history, I paid 198.40 NOK, which is only 20% off the full 248 NOK, so I guess the problem is with Kickstarter keys for Broken Sword 5 specifically.
