Puzzle Puppers, a really cute puzzle game could come to Linux with enough support
26 January 2017 at 12:41 pm UTC

I'd definitely buy this if it was available for Linux. Looks right up my alley, and so damn cute.

The awesome itch store is also having a big sale, with some real indie gems going cheap

Quoting: FurorAnyone have problems seeing Itch store systray icon in KDE?

Yes. I've been meaning to investigate and write up a proper bug report (if there isn't one already), but I haven't gotten around to it yet. The systray icon is just a red square instead of the real icon.

Yooka-Laylee confirmed to launch on April 11, 2017 with Linux support

I had a lot of fun with the backer Toybox, which was also a day-one release, so I'm very excited about the complete game. :)

It's also very common for the retail price to be higher than the cheapest game pledges, since backers take a risk by backing a project they're excited about, plus there's no way of knowing what a good market price for your game will be until you've put the years of development in and you see how it's starting to turn out compared to other, similar games.

Steam's Autumn sale to begin soon, date also leaked for the Winter sale

Quoting: tuubiTons of good games on my wishlist so I'll have plenty to choose from. I'll probably have to skip the autumn sale, but I'm hoping to bag Rocket League and/or Mad Max around Christmas. SHENZHEN I/O looks awesome as well.

Shenzhen I/O is indeed awesome.

Nvidia beta driver 370.23 has initial support for PRIME Synchronization
21 November 2016 at 10:42 am UTC

I missed this article when it was posted, but I was using bumblebee without issues until I upgraded from Linux Mint 17 KDE to 18 this weekend, and just couldn't get bumblebee to recognize my discrete GPU no matter what I tried. (It's always been a painful experience though, and I've found that the easiest way to upgrade my Nvidia drivers have been to uninstall bumblebee and primus, upgrade Nvidia, and then reinstall bumblebee and primus).

So I installed this driver (or 375.10; I don't remember; I'm at work now) and the nvidia-prime package, and I was kind of blown away by how easy it was to get to work. It's a bummer that there's no render offloading though, as I really enjoyed the convenience of primarily using the integrated card on my laptop and just using primusrun to launch more graphically intensive games. Right now I have to restart my display manager to have the switch take effect, but someone on the Linux Mint IRC channel mentioned that this is a shortcoming of sddm (the default display manager for Plasma 5), and that gdm and lightdm might not have this issue, so I'm thinking I'll give lightdm a try tonight and see if that will improve the experience.

Really hoping render offloading can be officially supported by Nvidia in the near future though, as it would make playing games on Linux laptops much, MUCH more appealing to casual gamers, and I think this is a huge market, even though these gamers might not frequent gaming news sites much.

Quoting: ertuquequeFantastic article! This is exactly what I wanted, a list of recommended games for itch.io... Please, keep these ones coming from time to time.
Fellow GOL writer flesk also maintains an Itco.io collection called Linux Gems, which might be of interest (I'm listed as a creator, but flesk has done all the work!)

Wow! Thanks for that list!

But IMHO it need to be a bit sorted, because it's so big.

Do you plan some sort of "favourites" inside the big list?

Cheers.

Thanks, that's actually a great idea. Unfortunately, it's not really possible to highlight games within a collection in any way, but I could create a separate Linux Gems Favorites collection, or something like that. I don't know if that's something I'll be able to manage on a regular basis though, since I don't have much time on my hands these days and managing the collections I already have got very time consuming, since the tools for managing large collections aren't very good. (GameJolt actually has much better tools for this, and I've actually started a Linux Gems "playlist" there too, but I haven't gotten very far with it.)

One problem with having a more curated collection though, is that it's bound to be biased towards genres I personally enjoy. I tried to avoid that with my Steam group by having several people recommend games, and I'd definitely love to get some help with this one too. If you're interested, just send me a message here or on Itch. (That goes for anyone else reading this as well.)

'Discovering Colors - Animals', a cheap colouring game for kids
24 October 2016 at 7:10 am UTC

My son used to like these kinds of games, but even on Android, most of them were pretty bad. This one looks very good though, with both free painting, coloring and color fill. Will definitely keep it in mind in case my daughter gets interested in something like it.

Do you have small children? If so, check "It's Spring Again", an educational indie game about the seasons

Quoting: 2redge2so bad it doesn't support french, my 7 old daughter love gaming on my desktop.
later maybe... :(

I got this game a while back to play it with my kids (and also to help sort out a Linux issue). I kind of forgot about it, so I haven't actually played it with them, but I think it should be possible to simultaneously interpret the game for your daughter, since there really isn't a whole lot of narration; just a sentence or two every now and then talking about the seasons and giving you a clue about what to do. My kids aren't native speakers of English either, so that was my plan anyway.
