Lumino City Confirmed, But Delayed For Linux
16 October 2014 at 10:55 pm UTC

Lume has some obscure puzzles for sure but I really like that in this game. They're all logical, so it just takes some determination to solve them.

It's definitely true that Flash is awful performance wise. I long for the day when Flash is no longer used in game development, but until that day comes I'll just suck it up when it comes to the few Flash games I really want to play. This is one of them.

Eufloria HD Released On Steam For Linux

Quoting: aLI loved it... I cant believe the author took the time to rewrite the whole thing o.O

Yeah, that's pretty awesome. :) I hope it pays off for them.

I was hoping to at least buy the soundtrack to send some money their way, but it turns out I had that too. (Probably included in the Humble Bundle.)

Developer Of SpaceChem Announces Sandbox Puzzle Game Infinifactory

I thought so too until I looked into it a bit. I've never played Infiniminer myself but Infinifactory looks interesting. At least until Factocraft pops up. ;)

Quoting: KestrelSteam won't help you and Nightdive/Tommo most probably won't too
I've got the guy who uploaded them to Steam on my friends list. Very nice guy. He's always willing to take advice and help where he can. He even recently installed multiple virtual machines with various linux distros to help make sure things ran ok.

If it's who I think it is he appears to be tech lead at Night Dive Studios. That makes it sound like he does more than just hit the "Upload" button on Steam once GOG are done packaging the games with DOSBox.

Sigils of Elohim, A Free Puzzle Game From The Developers Of Serious Sam

Quoting: laveso basically another developer that went casual to earn their bucks in the mobile/tablet market. its a shame how games dumb down more and more to make them cross platform compatible (not that serious sam was a complicated concept to begin with, but this is just another level)

Do you mean this game or The Talos Principle? Sure this one is as casual as they come but you should think of it more in terms of an interactive ad. Seems like a good idea to me to promote it beyond their existing customer base. TTP looks accessible for sure, but I wouldn't call it casual. More in the vein of games like Portal, The Stanley Parable, Antichamber and TRI.

Quoting: titiI think the game to really report about is "The Talos Principle" not this teaser mini game that is just made to advertise the other game.

The Talos Principle doesn't even have a release date yet. I'll cover it when the time comes.

First Three Games From Blackwell Series Available On Steam For Linux

Quoting: ArneJWhat do you think of the Blackwell series? Do the games run well for you?

Quoting: aLI loved these 3 games. 3-4h long each. They were in a humble a while back. Loved the voices, the story, the mechanics, the charcaters, the ambientation...

I also love these games (played the first 4) and think they're some of the best point-and-click adventures I've played in recent years. In case you missed it, I covered the Linux Humble Bundle debut in an article on GOL last month.

Quoting: aLwadjet games released another conversational game lately, "a golden wake".

I've played it and thought it was good. The puzzles are a bit inconsistent though. Some of them felt very unique but the game feels slightly imbalanced and if you play it mostly for the puzzles it might feel too linear. I recommend it for the story and atmosphere though.

Quoting: GuestThey are using Adventure Game Studio which is pretty much terrible under Linux: games start in fullscreen (ugly, pixellated) with no alt-tab support (under Xfce at least). I can press alt-return to switch to windowed, but then the window is a bit small and there is no option to make it bigger. It would be playable, though, if the mouse wasn’t locked to the window… well, kind of… sometimes I can make it move outside.

I have the same Alt+Tab issue with my integrated Intel card, but not with my dedicated GeForce GT 630M. The games are definitely pixellated since the engine goes way back (1997). Until recently the games have been limited to 320x200 pixels, but I think it was increased to 640x400 after it was open sourced.

There's a file in the installation directory of AGS games that can be edited to change things like windowed mode and GFX filter called acsetup.cfg. For windowed mode you simply change the line "windowed=0" to "windowed=1". Tweaking the "gfxfilter" line might help a bit with your visual experience with AGS games, but the values aren't exactly well documented as far as I've been able to glean from the official website and the GitHub repository. It accepts the values "None", "StdScale2", "StdScale3", "StdScale4", "AAx2", "AAx3", "AAx4", "Hq2x" and "Hq3x". You can read more about StdScale, AAx (I think) and Hqx on Wikipedia and experiment a bit to figure out what you prefer.

QuoteI don't think there's any precedence for FOSS on Steam, but there's at least an OSS game launching on Steam in the near future called Frogatto & Friends.
Now that you mention it, there was actually an Open Source Humble Bundle a while back which I had forgotten about. Not sure which of the games are 100% OSS and which just use Open Source libraries/tools, but it's still pretty cool.

I'm not familiar with all of those, but I'm pretty sure Anodyne, Offspring Fling! and Incredipede are all Flash games, so at least the engine isn't open source. Saira was also FOSSed back in August but it requires Multimedia Fusion 2, which is not (F)OSS, and I bet there are even more examples of this.

Quoting: Segata SanshiroI'm still of the opinion that some of these projects should start selling their games on Steam so they can pay developers and improve the quality and speed of development of the games. Of course, its still FOSS and can be downloaded for free, shared, etc but doesn't mean some people won't pay money.

I think SuperTuxKart were going to do something like this once they implement their new engine.

Yeah, I think that would be interesting too and it would be a good way of getting some more attention in addition to revenue. I'm sure there are many who would pay either to support the project or to be able to get Steam achievements, trading cards, cloud sync etc.

Full Version Of TRI: Of Friendship And Madness Released Today

That is disappointing. I see there's a ton of reported issues Linux issues there. I must have been pretty lucky not to encounter any on my playthrough.

On another note I've put about 3 hours into this game now and I'm really enjoying it a lot. There's a huge emphasis on exploration and you're very free in how you choose to get around once you've unlocked the powers to create triangles and defy gravity. A word of advice though: hit that quicksave button often when you're doing tricky stuff. Otherwise it can be pretty disheartening to have gained a high altitude in search of one of the more elusive idols, only to have it ruined by a slight misstep.

I'm mostly a singleplayer person too and I'm really looking forward to a campaign, so it's nice to see that they're starting to get some of the prerequisites in place. I haven't really been invested in a "historical" RTS since AoE II/AoM but I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of this.
