Sony to officially support the PS5 DualSense on Linux with a new driver
6 February 2021 at 4:29 pm UTC

My previous phone was an Xperia X, which I bought specifically to buy and install Sailfish X on it. When it was finally released though, you needed Windows to install Sailfish X on it, which angered a lot of people, since many of the people interested in a Linux OS on their phones were (surprise, surprise) Linux users. When an official Linux installer finally materialized, the battery on my phone had become so terrible that I needed a new phone, and none of the phones which were officially supported looked like good options for me at the time, so I ended up with a Huawei phone instead. I would have liked to try Sailfish X, but with the limited number of supported devices, it's difficult to hit that sweet spot in time where you're both in need of a new phone and can find one that both isn't too ancient and is supported by Jolla.

Quoting: PhlebiacMy only complaint at the moment is they waited until after release to send out keys to the Kickstarter backers - and I still haven't received mine. :(

I received a Steam key from them yesterday afternoon. If you still haven't received yours, it might be a good idea to contact them and see if there some kind of problem, like your preferred email address being different from the one registered with Kickstarter or something.

I haven't had much time to play games lately, but hopefully I get a chance to play the game this weekend.

Quoting: qgnoxPortugal goal was in offside position, the tackle to croatian player looks like from SpeedBall 2...

Heh, I thought the same thing, but then immediately afterwards the caption said "defend like there's no referee, cos there's no referee", so I guess it makes sense.

I've hardly played any football games since Nintendo World Cup on the NES, but this one looks like a lot of fun.

Quoting: chrisq"they"? Isn't ethan Lee a single person?

Singular "they" is a very common and gender neutral way to refer to a person:

Quoting: fleskFeral didn't drop the ball, Valve did.

I don't think that valve dropped the ball. They played the perfect move. How many of us bought a game to play on proton? That's profit. And it's immune from the decisions if devs to release on Linux or not.

That may be, but you're quoting me out of context. I was replying to someone saying that Feral dropped the ball by not supporting Linux, and my opinion is that Valve made it impossible for them to make any profit from it.

I know lots of us bought a game to play on Proton. I'm not one of them though, so from my perspective, Proton's been nothing but bad news so far. I'm hoping that'll change eventually though.

Quoting: gojulIt's clear that Feral has dropped the ball. Their radar looks empty. Too bad. Without Proton Linux gaming would be almost dead by now.

I sorta wonder if that is partially due to valve's embrace and extension of wine into the steam platform.

I don't think it's just partially. Feral don't get any money when people buy a game to play with Proton before they've released a port, so it's just not worth it for them anymore. They have a lot of cost up front (salaries etc.), so they have to be smart about which games to port, and it doesn't make sense to target Linux for less profits than ever. Feral didn't drop the ball, Valve did.

Quoting: TheBardThe best surprise I had in 2020 was Desperados III. I took it mostly to support devs realising on Linux day 1. But as soon as I started playing it, I loved it. It was even fun replay missions several times to play differently. If you like stealth games, you should have a look at it.

I also absolutely loved Desperados III, and it's even my most played game on Steam now*. It wasn't actually a day 1 release though, as the Windows version was released on 16 June, while the Linux version was released with the first paid DLC on 2 September.

(*I've played my previously most played game, Psychonauts, a bunch offline with the GOG version though.)

Uno Platform 3.1 released, adding Linux support to their Universal Windows Platform Bridge

QuoteThe Uno Platform (Pronounced 'Oono' or 'Ouno')

Wait what? I wasn't confused on how to say it until now. Is it not like the Spanish word? Or am I miss pronouncing the pronunciation? I'm so confused, lol

I'm not a native English speaker either, but I think you'd normally pronounce it "juno" in English, hence the clarification.

I also have good past experiences with HeidiSQL and DBeaver, although, in my experience, they have trouble refreshing stale connections. For Oracle databases (*ptooey*), SQLDeveloper is pretty good, but it's quite resource hungry, and tends to lock up after a while. These days, the SQL client built into IntelliJ IDEA is my favorite, since it doesn't have either of those issues, is quite feature rich, and I use the IDE for most of my development work anyway.

A Monster's Expedition, one of 2020's best puzzle games is now on Linux

I'm very happy that this is finally working on Linux now. Huge thanks to Alan Hazelden and Ethan Lee. I got a test build a few days ago, so I've already made good progress, but I can tell it's going to take a long time to play through it all.

Anyone who has been playing the game on Proton should make sure they back up their progress though, as Steam seems to wipe cloud saves from Proton when a native version is released:

Perspective puzzle game Superliminal is out now on Steam, along with Linux support
6 November 2020 at 6:25 pm UTC Likes: 2

I bought Superliminal yesterday, and thought it was great fun. I haven't played it all the way through yet, but probably will during the weekend. None of the puzzles so far have been particularly difficult, but they don't need to be for me to enjoy it.

Viewfinder also looks interesting. I hope it will get a Linux version.
