They keep on listening to the wrong people. The Steam Deck's success is a proof of that. Handheld gaming is not the same as pure PC gaming. What they are now offering is a degraded user experience on an under powered hardware.
Oh well, shame on them.

For my part, the Steam Deck is the only true PC handheld. All others are badly executed and pale imitations. Probably the 3millions+ who bought the Steam Deck and stuck with SteamOS are thinking the same.

I don't know if it's linked to this update, but since yesterday, Witcher 3 keeps on crashing in the glossary menu. No matter what I do, I get a hard freeze. Tried on my Steam Deck and my computer with Holoiso. Tried deleting the proton files. Tried validating game files. Switched to proton experimental & Hotfix. Hard freeze every time.

Edit: DX12 issue. At least, the DX11 version runs fine.

I have no trust in EA or Ubisoft. It all comes down to this.

I much prefer to buy my games on Steam and still be able to play them tens of years later. I Never lost access to a game on Steam yet, even if it is not available for purchase anymore (one such example is Dirt Showdown).

Agree that a SteamDeck like experience is preferable, but I see HoloIso itself as a problematic choice. In my search for a SteamOS-like experience HoloIso was indeed the closest one, but was also the most problematic.

On that, I think you are right. They must have found a way to solve these problems internally, like I did with the updates bug, but it's a straighter way to upgrade to the official SteamOS when it's available (end user wise), if that's what they are planning to do.

Renoir is the same Zen 2 as the Van Gogh in the Deck; the Deck just uses RDNA 2 for the GPU rather than the Vega in the mainstream chips.

But, yes, stock clearance would have helped with the pricing.

My reasoning is not specifically linked to the chipset though. I'm not completely sure, but I think that you may find previous Ayaneo models with the same apus. Just by memory, don't take it for granted.

If I'm not remembering wrong, they were the first to sent an AYANEO to ChimeraOS team (even before Valve sent a SteamDeck), so they know about it and there's a resemblance of collaboration. Could be because of ChimeraOS's choice of using Gnome instead of KDE? (and wanting for their device to be more SteamDeck like?)

The high-end SteamOS handheld is the Steam Deck. Really, though, this makes perfect sense, but only assuming it's as low-cost as the literature so far implies.

The "Blue Ocean Strategy" has a term for this, and it's how all market disruption starts: "Crappy products for crappy customers.". That's not crappy as in low-quality, but rather "crappy" as in the big players in the market rejected them and refuse to cater to them even though there's a ready-made market just waiting to hand over their money (the fact that Linux gaming recently overtook Mac gaming, but we're still seeing companies refusing to support Linux whilst making large concessions for MacOS also plays into this).

The lack of certain features isn't a problem, either, for that reason - in fact, some more "Lite" options are likely to help adoption (as well as hopefully cover regions where the Steam Deck is not yet available).

That's one way to see it, I get your point, but what I meant its that I was expecting something in the performance range of the Ally, Legion Go or Claw, with SteamOS. Probably easier to justify the cost of such a device; No need to compete with the Steam Deck, in the low price range and might sell more than the 3 others because of the diffrent offering/better experience. It would have picked my interrest, at least. Just my two cents.
