Quoting: MohandevirYeah. From what I heard (Linus Tech Tips), they achieved it by shrinking the bezels. The overall size of the screen is unchanged. So, the original SD's screen might be upgradable. Let's wait and see...

In the Gamers Nexus video on it touches on this with a "statement" from a avlave engineer saying it isnt possible to swap in the OLED screen to a non OLED model; see at below timestamp:

Damn! Not that it matters to me. I wouldn't embark on that journey. But for those who would like to...

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI wonder how that works, actually. Is the whole thing just 0.4" bigger overall, or was there space around the edge of the existing screen that could be moved into so the device is the same size just with a bigger hole for the screen, or somewhere in between? Did they need to shift the controls any?
The screen had a large border:

My guess is they just used some of that space.
Yeah, looks plausible.

Quoting: MohandevirI miss the old bpm, in that regard.
I miss it too. For all its sins (read bugs) it had a warm feeling to it. The new one feels cold, clinical, impersonal. I'm getting used to it, but in one place is still sorely lacking, and that is controller settings. The old BPM visual and intuitive gamepad settings were replaced with a cumbersome and convoluted mess of nested menus over menus. Probably useful for Steam Deck I suppose, where screen estate is premium, but, at least for me, useful only for basic profiles, the more advanced the profile I'm trying to set, the more lost I get.
Luckily I've kept an old Steam client from before the new interface and I use that to set new profiles, heck I still frequently game on that.

I get your point, the old BPM was nice, but it lacked in many features though. For my part, the old BPM supported older hardware. Now, with wayland being badly supported by Nvidia... I can't use it anymore.

Quoting: EikeThis was a joke regarding expectations of gamers always wanting more.

So true!!! Never satisfied!

Quoting: MohandevirFor my part, all that's missing is USB4 support and an egpu docking station.

Read: self-mockery.

Aaaah! Wake from bluetooth controller... Missed that one. Even better.
Valve is positionning the Steam Deck as a console, when docked. For my part, all that's missing is USB4 support and an egpu docking station. Who knows, it might be possible to do something with an RX7600m or similar portable chip inside? Steam Deck 2, maybe? For VR and the Deckard?

Wow! Awesome!

Can we expect the ram speed boost to give a couple of additional fps?

Is the GTX 900 gpus now supported in Gamescope/Bazzite?

Looking forward to install an htpc experience, on my old laptop...

QuoteWhat have you been playing lately?

Doom 2016 (current), Bioshock Infinite - Burial at sea part I & II and before that Dirt Showdown. All of them are awesome on the Steam Deck.

Edit: Oh! Forgot about my Batman Arkham Knight and Origin runs!

Quoting: MohandevirSteamOS 3.5 that's taking ages to reach stable... What is holding them back?

SteamOS 3.5 is the first time that the underlying OS got updated. I suspect they were expecting to just take another Arch snapshot, apply their patches, and then move onto other things - after all, Steam works on every distro already, and a lot of Valve's stuff has been upstreamed. Easy. But... that's not what happened. People testing 3.5 said that it was very broken, and it remained very broken for quite some time. And while Valve are busy putting out fires for that snapshot the Arch hosepipe has kept on going, meaning that Valve also need to come up with a sane way to keep rebasing on Arch snapshots much more easily than this time, to keep doing it for the next 10 years or so without just being distro maintainers that never get anything else done.

Thanks for your input. I knew 3.5 was buggier at launch, but I didn't know it was that bad. I tought the major roadblocks had been sorted out a while ago.

Edit: This said, Arch being buggy and, like Liam said, HDR development, it might explain a lot of the actual delay.

Quoting: MohandevirI'm wondering if it's not the biggest missing link for the SteamOS 3.5 release and the Sephiroth official reveal. **Fingers crossed**
I think if it was for Deckard then it would have a much higher priority than it has seen. I imagine how it's being rendered is different, especially since from the previous leaks we saw it would have a standalone mode.

I'm not going to argue about that; you are in a much better position to know... It's just that all these leaks about Sephiroth and SteamOS 3.5 that's taking ages to reach stable... What is holding them back? What roadblock Valve met? It might just be coincidence, then.
