How to fix bodies not showing in Shadow of Mordor with Nvidia drivers temp fix
9 August 2016 at 6:13 pm UTC

I have a GTX960 and, for my part, with driver 361.45.19 (I hope I got it right), there is no problem. The performances are on par with driver 367.xx.

Unless you have a GTX10x0 you might not need to use the latest driver.

For my part, something is happening. There was never that much curiosity and willingness to try Linux.

Just at work I converted a friend to Linux Mint and he converted three other co-workers to Linux.

Microsoft's repeated intrusions and forced upgrades are responsible for this, from what I hear. People are fed up by MS's "Whe know what is good for you and you'll like it". MS went too far, this time.

The curious tale of vanishing Linux & SteamOS ports, a status on a few of them

Quoting: HalifaxValve giving up on SteamVR for SteamOS and pretty much giving up on SteamOS, at least for now, sure does seem like they decided to not power through and fix/try again after a poorly received Steam Machine release.

Just trying to put things together and this is just speculation, but looking at AMD's recent rate of development on Linux with their AMDGPU-Pro (and/or) Opensource driver and considering the fact that their new apu's are reported to have performances int the range of R9-285, R9-290 gpus (can't find the source where I read this)... I'm beginning to think that it might be the missing piece of the puzzle for another Steam Machine offensive.

What I mean is that you can't have a viable price bracket with Intel CPU + Nvidia GPU or sufficient performances with Intel integrated graphics. I'm talking about low end Steam Machines, obviously, but if you can get an APU for 200$ that does both...

But that is just speculation and AMD has still to deliver what is advertised.

Edit: Can't find the article where the comparison was mentionned, but still, here are examples:

Dear Valve and Steam Machines OEMs, you have it all wrong

Quoting: PeciskI will say this - there are many assumptions without vetting opposite scenarios in both post and comments. For example old 'slower performance' argument really doesn't matter that much for Steam Machine. It is all about package, performance is one angle, it sure helps, but is not necessarily make or break point.

Also being released after Windows can be turned around - majority of casual games really don't care when games are released. They care when they can play lot of games they want on their system. If they can, they don't really care that much of release dates. At this point it doesn't matter that much imnho. In future it will.

Overall I think we in circles with this. There are rehashed arguments without strong basis or data to chew on. Lot of speculation and assumptions.

We might get some answers during Steam Dev Days:

http://steamcommunity.com/devdays

Then we might have a clearer portrait about Valves's level of dedication into Linux.

Double Fine is doubling the good news, as there is a discounted bundle of their games on Steam

For my part, I already got Costume Quest 1 & 2 that my kids really enjoy.

I also got The Cave. Imo, this game is a jewel in itself... "Yes, yes! A talking cave. Don't laugh because it makes dating hell."

The latest Steam Hardware Survey shows a rather insignificant drop for Linux

Quoting: MohandevirJust a guess... Is it possible that the forced Win10 upgrade is triggering a lot more survey request to Win10 users because of the configuration change?

It would reflect in a Linux percentage drop, giving a wrong image of the real Linux marketshare.

Things might come back to normal after July 29th...
Wow, i didn't even think of that, but it is highly possible actually as it is likely that will cause the survey to appear.

This is why I'd prefer Valve to proceed like the survey here, when it comes to OS. Something like "current OS" in our user profile, that you supply on a voluntary basis, and stop triggering the survey because of an OS change. Even if some may cheat, it would give a much more accurate portrait whithout some external influence meddling with it...

Still I don't think it's Valve's goal with this HARDWARE survey and they are probably quite aware of the problem.

However, I must have misunderstood something. I though that if a game used Vulkan, we would just have it on Linux too... But that obviously isn't the case with DOOM.

Maybe their are planing a secret unannounced release :D

...Something like SteamOS official support for dual GPUs? :)

Edit: Oups! Sorry. I mixed this news with the 2.83 beta release of SteamOS and Liam's concern for a major SteamOS update... Still dual AMD GPUs on SteamOS would be great.

Skylanders and the Portal on Linux... Anybody knows if it works?
I got a kid that would be really happy to play Skylanders Giants again (CD got sratched and is no longer usable).
