The upcoming No VR Mod for Half-Life: Alyx shows off amazing progress

Dunno... I think this mod will leave people thinking that HL:Alyx is a lack-luster FPS.
I can't imaging it having anywhere near the impact to what playing it in VR has. HL:Alyx is truly designed to be VR first, and it shows in nearly every aspect of the game.
Edit: it also doesn't progress the overall Half-Life story much, so I think people don't need to think they are missing out on the story progress. Better to only play it the way it was meant to be, then walking away from it thinking "this was boring".

'Deckard' is apparently the codename for a possible standalone Valve VR headset

Hmm, I wonder what kind of hardware will be inside. There is some speculation that it could be a similar SoC then in the Steam Deck, but that seems underpowered and would limit it mostly to Quest ports.
Another rumor is that the hardware inside is somehow able to offload part of the compute requirements, which together with eye-tracking FOVeated rendering would really reduce the GPU reqirements of the main PC, potentially making PC based VR much more affordable.
But putting all that standalone hardware into a headset and then still requiring a PC to drive it seems like a waste.
Not sure what the final product will be... maybe a more augmented reality & productivity focussed headset that can optionally be connected to a PC? That would make sense, but isn't really in Valve's DNA I guess.

I hope that will be the big next hardware announcement (other than the Steam Deck docking station ofc.).

I hope this will not end up in a story of one big game opting in, seeing some Linux based cheaters, then opting out again and claiming on Twitter that all it does is bringing in cheaters as the number of legit Linux players is so low (or some shortsighted BS like that).
Online co-op still planned for Children of Morta shown in new video plus free update

Odd... did the plan change to rebuild Wesnoth on top of the Godot engine?

QuoteThe team is also specifically looking for committed developers willing to help migrating the game’s outdated rendering system to a newer API such as OpenGL or Vulkan.

Quoting: FredrikIf I understand it right, its only for AMD, so useless for the majority of Linux gamers since most run nvidia.
