Keith Packard's video from 'LinuxConfAu 2018' talking about Virtual Reality and Linux is up

Yeah VR games are really different... it's more about presence... most sports are rather simplistic games as well... or take hiking which is "just walking around", yet it can be really enjoyable. VR is getting there and if combined with an awesome computer game, it really is the next level.

However VR on Linux... not sure if that will ever really take off. It is a small niche of a niche and probably stay one in the forsee-able future (unless some big company really pushes for a Linux based VR console of some sort, which is highly unlikely). Thus even optimistically speaking, we will maybe get 20% of an already smaller market of games, which translates to a handful of games. And for that I would not buy a 300-400 euro device...

But maybe WINE will work well enough, or technology like WebVR (now rebranded to WebXR) really takes off.
Anbox (to run Android Daydream/GearVR apps on Linux) could also be a way to emulate mobile VR on a Linux VR headset.

Let's see... I am cautiously optimistic :)

Adventure platformer 'Celeste' from the creators of TowerFall has released with Linux support

Seems nice, but how does it stand out from millions of similar plattformers? Female protagonist, ok... otherwise? The price is a bit too high to just buy it on a whim.

The 'GPD Win 2' could be an interesting device for Linux gaming on the go

Quoting: razing32
Quoting: RTherenI wonder if SteamOS would run on that thing

Depends if SteamOS has the required drivers I guess.

Yes it has, as this is a pure Intel device. It might require a few smaller changes probably by installing a custom kernel, but that is really easy to do.

The predecessor the GPDWin(1) runs really well with Linux as well, see my post here: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/forum/topic/2765
The advantage is that it can be bought right now for a bit more than 300 Euros, and really isn't that much slower that the new device.

Intel launches their new CPUs with Radeon RX Vega M Graphics along with two new 'NUC' mini-pc models

These new NUCs make for an awesome steam machine... too bad they are rather pricy (the bigger one seems to go for $1000 and you still need to add RAM and a SSD).

Rumor has it though that AMD is going to launch a similar chip with Ryzen also... probably as part of their deal to allow Intel to use their graphics in this.

Besides that... yeah Intel did some pretty shitty PR when it comes to Meltdown/Spectre, but this entire debacle very much sounds like someone a decade ago cut some corners to get a few percent extra speed (still mattered a bit more back then) with the assumption that there wouldn't be a practical way to exploit it. And nearly the entire industry seems to have thought along similar lines, given how wide-spread the general issue is. In hind-sight not great, but it's not really anything to get angry towards Intel about.

Retro-inspired FPS 'DUSK' should still come to Linux after the main launch

Anyone got an idea what engine this is using? Either they copied Quake very well, or this might actually run on an open source Quake engine?

Quoting: Geppeto35I don't understand the system: killing enemy ships provides bonus or unlock something, or is the goal only to use the three kinds of weapons to kill them all only?

No, you can choose the type of weapon depending on what you want to achieve.
Depending on the weapon / enemy color combination you either recharge your shield, do extra damage or charge your super-weapon.

The brutal FPS 'Apocryph' is planned for Linux, looks quite brilliant

Looks very much like a non-mobile graphics version of Battlevoid Harbinger

Thus it might be quite good ;)
