Steam Controller Demo From Pax Prime With Valve Talking About It
15 September 2015 at 2:23 pm UTC Likes: 2

I think this SteamController has a huge potential in e-sport games. Each player can customize its own controller layout. It would not only be about the game techniques, but also about how smart the player customized his controller for, say, a specific street fighter character. Then, as an amateur, you could use the same layout as this e-sport player, or that one...

I see also lots of other use case, but this one just popped in my mind.

Vulkan Looks Impressive Against OpenGL In A New Intel Demo

Quoting: STiATWe shouldn't forget that the PS4 API is still even lower level than DX12 or Vulkan
Do you have source on that? From what I heard it's nothing more than a modified OpenGL (it has specific extensions for the GPU in the PS4, but the level is the same as the one in OpenGL).

Vulkan Looks Impressive Against OpenGL In A New Intel Demo

Quoting: PeciskSony being with Khronos isn't rumor and I don't see them any reason why they would have to deny low level API implementation. They aren't Nintendo.
Sony is indeed part of the Vulkan team, but I think it will take some time before the new API gets its way to their PS4. First because they need to test it thoroughly in order to make it as stable as their previous API (a derivative of OpenGL) and also because it's most probable that they will wait for their console sales to go down before introducing the new API that will make their machine faster (most players don't know about Vulkan, heck I even know game devs that doesn't know about it).

What Have You Been Playing Recently, And What Do You Think About It?

Dota 2 Reborn :D

It runs very well and the gameplay is very rewarding, once you get into it, you learn from your mistakes and at each game you make progresses.

Alienware Have A New Youtube Series Showing Off Gameplay On Their Steam Machine

Quoting: wojtek88I know that they post this videos with games that run nicely (seems that this is more like an element of the sales campaign) but I would love to see both Metro games, Witcher 2, Shadow of Mordor, Cities: Skylines, Borderlands TPS. Just to know how do they work on the hardware before I would decide to order/buy it.
I've played Cities: Skylines for some time (with the open source radeon drivers) and it works pretty well. I had a couple of slowdowns, but since the pace of the game is not really high, it's really not a problem. Plus, maybe it works better with proprietary drivers? I just never tried (FOSS FTW :D)

I have the same feedback for the two Civilizations, plus some minor graphics glitches.

But remember that I don't have the supported config at all: Fedora + open source drivers

Dota 2 Reborn Launches Without Linux Support

Quoting: MaelraneIf I were in their position I'd just use OpenGL (and Vulkan) and spit on a DX-Renderer.
That is simply not possible since Source 2 also support Xbox, which is DX only.

Seeing the survey, MS is clearly where their clients are, so it is normal that they first deliver to them. It would have been great if they could have delivered for all platform at once, but they didn't. And since Dota 2 is the most played [[1]](https://steamdb.info/graph/) game, I assume it is a mere pragmatic choice.

New Linux Gaming Survey For June

Is there a view of the statistics over time?
It would be interesting to see the distro migrations through the months, and also the amount of games bought along the year.

Valve Officially Drop Paid Mods

QuoteI hope they come back with a donation system of some sorts, as it would still be nice to reward modders.
I hope so too. A good interface (like Humble Bundle for instance) can change anything.

Cities: Skylines Patch, Improved Linux Performance Included
19 March 2015 at 12:30 pm UTC

On my Radeon free drivers, I have huge lags when help pop-ups show and hide (I suppose it is because Paradox uses an OpenGL extension that isn't implemented yet in the free drivers), I hope the patch fixes it.

Anyway, these pop-ups were the only lag problems I had on my HD 6870, everything else was surprisingly fast considering the constrains!
