If a game doesn't run with wine from the get-go, it won't run. In some rare cases, you can install a few libs using winetricks to resolve an issue, but that't it.
You spend 10 minutes at max on that. And then it either works forever (so those 10 minutes are unique), or doesn't.

My Wine prefix has all the usual dlls needed installed and I just need to run Steam via wine, install a game and play it - and it will either work or won't, but I won't lose much time either way.

i took 5 days to install tera (because the stupid installer didnt knew i had an good internet connection and took years to download the game)

and i was not able to install it on wine.

i took about 1 hour to insall neptunia and it worked fine,but i already had finished the game on a windows machine, then i tried to install the second game on the same prefix and not only the second game didnt worked, the first one stoped working as well.

its a pain in the ass.

actually i do xD, they made openGL
and i was studying on then recently (through videos on youtube), quite insteresting what they did on movies, the n64 and 3D interface (fun fact mario64 interface was based on their interface)

wich is 5 millions less than an the ouya did, and still floped.
wich is a double shame since they are the fucking ATARI brand and ouya was an no one ever listen about brand.

ouya costed less , sold more, and still the number of users were not big enough for developers.
i will say it again, this thing will not help us to increase the linux marketshare.


Ouya at least had an proposal, bring indie games to the living room, and add an new feature on the controllers (touchpad)

but playstation killed then adding touchpad on ps4, xbox and playstation killed then by adding support for indie games, and they product died anyway because they couldnt sell many or the public didnt purchased many games (maybe the target audience was to poor to buy many games anyway?)


this thing is snake oil, we are just failing to see it because "It runs linux", wich seems to be a pejorative thing nowadays, the fact that google, facebook etc runs linux dont mean that any crap hardware would become automatically good because it runs linux or would have better drivers for linux than for windows.

this thing will only harm the atari brand even more and harm linux as an brand for the average user even more.

and even it the product isnt is an scam and turn out to be an hardware more powerfull than they promissed on the campaing, with an great cost benefit and so on...

people may just install windows on it to have acess to more games (as they did with the steam machines)
and the product will not sell many copies anyway because many youtubers are trash talking the product.

iOS is a "money making machine" so many game engines support metal or will support metal so they can be used to make iOS apps, now that apple will ditch support for iOS its more likely that more games will support metal than they will keep suporting openGL.

apple is the richest tech company, even if some companies dont want to support then, they can afford to purchase some support including exclusive games.

The same can be said for Android which in fact is a bigger pie than iOS alone.

Most Android implementations ship with some form of OpenGL and more modern, higher end ones also ship with Vulkan too.

android indeed has an highter marketshare, but most of the money comes from the iOS market.
making money for iOS is more profitable than for android unfourtunatelly.

Why you think making a game for AtariVCS is making a game for only 10.000 users when Atari uses Linux?? When you make a game for Linux you're making a game for AtariVCS.

the issue is, AtariVCS will not change our marketshare from 1% to 2%,3% and so on, so its irrelevant as an product.

Sure, but since we are talking about playing games here, having free time is already something of a given.

Not that I have wasted that many hours of my life getting a game to work with WINE. As long as the game starts at all it is usually fairly trivial to get it up and running in my experience. Especially since as I have already mentioned many of the games I use WINE for will no longer play nice even on a modern Windows system.


i rather spend 2 hours playing, than 1 hour 55 minutes trying to make the game work, and 5 minutes playing it.

(assuming that i only have 2 hours after the work, trafit, studying and so on)
