its one of 3 things:
1)we are everything they seek to destroy, imagine if players get used to the openes of linux and start demanding more products to be that open? they wouldnt be able to milk their users for over priced skins, gambling pay to win, FOMO daily login rewards (because the games arent fun enough to make people want to play everyday without bribe), etc...
2)microsoft paid then to sabotage us, while then thenselves keep their hands clean, and above all suspicious because their own games support linux.
3)making an anti cheat solution that work in an open source operating system is really hard, even kernel level anticheats wouldnt do much since we can just customize the kernel anyway.

Quoting: Leahi84What I don't understand is why are these companies so hostile towards Linux? It seems completely illogical for late stage capitalist corporations to turn away potential earnings no matter how small when their investors demand endless growth.

if an game is made using an proprietary game engine, it dont matter if it get relased under source avaliable, open source or what, we still have an layer of code that we cant change (the game engine code), otherwise anyone can say that something is open source, despite now showing any thing but: call_magic_function1():
withotu any explanation of what this function do and how, its an api from an game engine made inhouse or from a thirdy party.
looks like they used FNA so... its we really can see how it works.

in any case the tax are different for consoles than for games (they are much worse for the games thenselves and even then we had good prices in the past on steam, things changed but we still have massive sales)
regardless of tax, they earn a lot of money here, and maybe the steamdeck could enter the new taxes (if they dont change again with the new government) or enter here as pcs?
in any case, despite this problems i think it can sell well, steam is one of our savior for cheap games after all.

Quoting: TheRiddickyes, games are treated as "bad luck games" (those that you bet real money), they are taxed in 60% wich is absurd... well nowadays some games are in fact bad luck games, but we shouldnt treat all of then like this.Quoting: elmapulthen, not only they dont relase here, but its just one region this time.
Doesn't Brazil have some sort of INSANE tax that Valve wouldn't be able to get around?

honeslty, im REALLy sad now.
Steam deck relased in 4 regions initially, then later on in more 4 regions...
i saw the countries were steam had the biggest revenue, and saw that Brasil should be in the next batch of 4 countries...
then, not only they dont relase here, but its just one region this time.
i dont know why i still create false hopes.

looks like it was not their fault, but who knows, in any case...
i hate how people dont think twice before donating money for crowdfunding that didnt delivered anything, but think a million of times before donating to an open source project.

Quoting: robvvI recently noticed that the suyu gitlab repo has been closed, too. Computers are supposed to be learning and creative tools, and instead we have this walled-garden situation created by greedy companies. Maybe devs should host their repos in countries that are not too bothered about what Nintendo says...computers are creative tools, then nintendo take down their own servers of mario maker, because they want to sell mario maker 2 or something...

not to mention stuff like region locked games.
hell imagine import an game, only to realize that you also need to import an video game and maybe even an tv to play it, then after you finally stole a bank to purchase all that, you still need to learn another idiom....

Quoting: WMan22Quoting: Mountain ManIf you want to play Nintendo games, then buy a Nintendo console. It's as simple as that.
I HAVE been buying Nintendo Consoles all the way back starting with the Nintendo 64. I am even one of the 5 people who bought a WiiU.
But they don't really make TVs with composite slots anymore, everything's HDMI now. So it doesn't matter if I have physical hardware (Which I DO by the way), CRTs are dying one by one, I won't be able to play the games I grew up with forever unless emulators are allowed to exist. A future without emulation is horrifying. Entire generations of culture lost because of hardware that is not compatible with modern TVs.
There is no good argument in favor of removing emulators from existence. If you approve of this, I literally see you as no better than people who burned books under fascist regimes.
Additionally, let's say in a completely hypothetical scenario (which isn't our reality, let's be crystal clear) that all games were still readily available and that I didn't need an emulator to play Geist on modern TVs because N-Space is currently defunct and therefore cannot sell their game on virtual consoles while receiving money for the game. There's still a strong argument in favor of emulation due to being able to remaster games yourself. For example: On a WiiU emulator, you can play Breath of the Wild at 8k 240fps given powerful enough hardware. On a switch, it barely hits 720p 30.
