Some thoughts on the Asus 4K PB287Q 28 inch monitor, with added radiation alarm

Quoting: Keyrock(except Lords of Xulima, which might be the single worst optimized game I've ever played)

There's a tweak to improve performance in that game on Linux, go to its' settings file and change this line: <Simple name="MaxTexureMemory" value="128000000" />

Performance increases quite a bit, sometimes will still tank but it's much more playable. For the record I've also disabled desktop composition and the ingame V-Sync.

Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition for Linux & SteamOS is being held up (updated)

I read about this earlier today, hopefully the wait will not be much longer. Despite the delays, I'm still positive in Larian.

SMACH Z, the portable AMD Steam Machine is on Kickstarter

I hope the more experienced Linux users don't fall for this. First of all the gameplay sections they showed were not on the handheld itself but a recorded video and that could be from a sturdy desktop system. Secondly I doubt their chip will be able to handle AAA games, especially with such poor drivers and at 1080p? Oh please.

There are plenty of games that it will run fine, but certainly not AAA ones and for god's sakes you don't need a 1080p on a 5 inch Screen, a 720p will do just fine and will boost performance quite a bit.

This project has nailed everything the unwary customer wants to hear: 1080p, AAA game names, Steam, Streaming...etc. Then comes in the lack of a working prototype.

One must be mad to pledge 200e (minimum) for something like this without having any idea what it's going to be capable of.

Garry Newman, developer of Rust & Garry's Mod on supporting Linux, possibly not for future games

Heard about Rust and Garry's Mod but not about the creator himself, hell only now I just made the 1 + 1 where the Garry's Mod name comes from. The way he's putting it, seems like the problem is between keyboard and chair.

Unity surely has its' flaws but there are countless games on Linux built with it and they run very good.

A developer on Tesla Effect details why the Linux port never arrived

Quoting: ShmerlHow hard is it to replace Bink with other codec, and and use corresponding decoder with ffmpeg for example? Or it's a problem with Unity not allowing such flexibility?

The dev on the Steam thread mentioned they tried Ogg Video but they had sync problems between the audio/video. My guess is that they tried other codecs too but were unsuccessful.

I find it a bit of a stupid move that RADVideoTools don't want to support Linux in general, this would have opened up not just 1 game to Linux, but any future projects that want to use the codec.

Quoting: Avehicle7887I highly recommend it to all RPG fans when it releases.

Great! Can we create our own character or is he /she predefined?

There are quite a few customizations for both of your characters - class, appearance, attributes and starting skills. You can see what to expect in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYXwHW-yOXE

Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition for Linux & SteamOS is in testing

I just reopened the GOL page to check about this game and here is it. I think that (despite the many delays) this will be one of the games where a Linux port was promised and will be delivered, better late than never.

It's a really great game, I played it for a few months with almost 10hrs a day and then I parted with it when I moved to Linux. I highly recommend it to all RPG fans when it releases.

Wine 1.8-rc2 released, brings more stability

Wine has made some great leaps these past few years and has become great for games, I rarely use it but I'm glad there's something I can count on when I want to replay some games from my childhood.

Hollow Knight looks like exactly the type of action platformer I would play on Linux
26 November 2015 at 11:29 am UTC

Now THIS is a platformer I'm going to buy, big levels and beautiful artwork.

Quoting: Doc AngeloI guess the version on Steam will also be DRM free. You don't have to use any kind of DRM when publishing through Steam.

Sometimes I wonder what devs really understand when it comes to DRM and Steam - requiring to log into the client to download the game, or requiring the client running to play the game.

If they didn't enforce the client to play, I would have no problem buying from Steam and using it just to download the games.

Leak: AMD's new driver will apparently offer much better performance on Linux

I'm curious to see the new performance benchmarks with these drivers. I've been wanting to go with an AMD gpu for a new system for a while now and the poor drivers are the only thing holding me back.

Nvidia may be the best for Linux but they aren't very open source friendly.
