I cannot wait to read the comments on this. Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition is coming to Linux at the same time it is arriving on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, despite the latter two not even being part of the Kickstarter campaign that spawned the game.

Sony Is Creating A List Of Crowdfunding Projects To Gauge Interest

I would still very much like Feral to port Borderlands, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, BioShock, and BioShock 2 to Linux. With Feral having done the work to get them on Mac OS, getting them on Linux should be that tiny bit easier. Nevertheless, encouraging Feral to take a risk with these older games by bringing them to Linux should have more than just a simple promise behind it. That is where a solid, monetary pledge comes in.

In addition, I would like Dark Souls and Dark Souls II to come to Linux, but how is this ever supposed to happen? Does anybody have a better idea than utilising crowdfunding to fund the ports of said games and assure developers and publishers alike that the risk is minimal?

I understand why people are angry with Sony for doing this, as Sony is exponentially larger than both Feral and Aspyr combined, and has the means to fund a multitude of games entirely by itself, especially games that are part of a known franchise, and can target a market much larger than either of the two renowned porting houses. That should not dissuade people from crowdfunding the much smaller entities, however.

I will still never pledge on Kickstarter again, simples. Too many risks for me.

I buy games that are on Linux, and not before.
Here at GamingOnLinux.com we strive to explore what implications gaming news not directly linked to Linux may have on Linux. Enjoy the ride.
