Quoting: FutureSutureWhy are you suffering? The latest news regarding AMD's open source drivers for that card has shown remarkable improvement. Things are looking up quite a bit.
Remarkable improvement in the drivers isn't the same thing as remarkable performance.
Performance is quite remarkable now considering how poor it was not too long ago. Best open source drivers to game on.
Quoting: HadBabitsMy steam seems to have reverted back to just "Linux"
I have noticed the same thing. What is Valve up to?

Quoting: WotanI see it now. Well I think it's quite logic. They are showing their distro to the big public, telling them "Hey, we have an easy solution if you want to try another o.s. and play some games without thinking too much or complicating your life".

Steam OS is VALVE's Distro... I don't think that shows any kind of disrespect to other distros. After all Steam is a private platform. And as far as I'm concerned, and as long as Valve keep pushing AMD to improve linux drivers, I'm happy.

Gosh, amd 7770 + linux.. what a suffering.

Because he doesn't use open source drivers?
Then maybe he should try them so his suffering can potentially end?
And get worse performance on newer hardware? I do give props to how fast the OS drivers are evolving. I myself will probably never use them however.
Sure, why not? Depends on what type of person he is. I would go for somewhat worse performance over "what a suffering" quite easily. It wouldn't be for that long after all.

I do not want the Linux bit taken out, nor do I want Tux to be removed. That is what I think. The fact that it is "Linux + SteamOS" irks me a bit already. It's like saying "Linux + Ubuntu" or "Consoles + PlayStation 4" or "PC + Linux" or "Europe + UK" or other silly things like that. When the latter is part of the former, there is no need to specify. Considering how new SteamOS is, I don't think it means much to the average Joe at this point either. Whatever the case, I realise that this change wasn't made for me, but for the average Joe, so we shall see.

What? AMD's open source drivers are getting better and better and bugs are being squashed in the closed source drivers as well. I assume you're on the closed source drivers. Why not give the open source drivers a go?

Even when compared to Xonotic and Unvanquised?
I am not too sure now actually.
