Yay, reviews from watching some videos! \o/ I gather the negativity comes from being unable to play this on Linux.

Resident Evil Village on PS5 has taken up all my free time since Thursday evening. Very similar to VII and yet very different. I just love Resident Evil, even the weaker outings. Except for 6, that's terrible.

Yes, this is great fun. I also have Dekker, but that requires typing so I haven't played it (yet I hope) as I tend to gravitate towards the sofa.

Hamish, I have a Voodoo card I can send your way if you promise to send it back sometime this century. It’s been sat in my attic for many years and I’ll be happy to have a small hand in your enjoyable series of articles, if it still works that is. LMK if you’re interested at all.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun - Aiko's Choice standalone expansion announced

Quoting: rea987
Quoting: SuppenAlthough I do not understand why they insist on just 32 bit for Linux. 64 bit has been around for ages

That is the reason why the standalone expansion is not going to be released on Mac and consoles; they demand 64 bit builds whereas Linux and Windows are just fine with 32 bit. So, they won't need to invest the game engine upgrade for 64 bit, instead focus on game development with existing 32 bit engine.

I just tried running ST on my Macbook Pro and sure enough it wouldn't since it's a 32-bit app. I get its devs don't want to upgrade their engine, but making 32-bit programs in 2010s is rather silly.

With every release Gnome becomes more of a MacOS rip off. It's not even in inspiration territory any more, it's all lifted straight from there.

To celebrate one year, Half-Life: Alyx is the cheapest it's ever been

I don’t know the reason why linux is not advertised as a platform for Alyx, but it’s true the Nvidia driver doesn’t have the required functionality to make it run flawlessly (async reprojection).

That said, I was able to make it run well enough on my 980 Ti, so if your hardware is better than that you’ll be fine.

While it's possible to disable the timer it's pretty generous and since most of the time you have no idea what it is you're choosing anyway it's mostly meaningless. No amount of dexterity is required at all.

I'm now through the game and concur that it's a great way to spend a few hours.

Linux vendor System76 releases the Pangolin, a full AMD laptop
17 March 2021 at 11:40 am UTC

Soldering ram or other hardware decisions aren’t really up to s76 or tuxedo, it’s whatever clevo decides to make and sell to them. If they came out with soldered memory tomorrow that’s what we’d be getting regardless of whatever we or our linux vendors thought of it.

As for Coreboot, apparently it’s far from usable on AMD, but being worked on. Jason Evangelho mentions this in his news piece about this laptop on Forbes.

Samsai really needs to stop saying like every 3 seconds...

Distortion isn’t bad, the difference in volume is more serious. You just need to do a short trial run before you start recording, though I’m sure you know that already. :-)

Great stuff, thanks for doing it.
