Three Years Ago Valve Put Steam Into Beta For Linux, A Look At It All
8 November 2015 at 12:09 pm UTC Likes: 1

It seems that the marketing of Steam Machines has been pretty much non-existing on general media. If I were Valve, I would overhaul the entire Steam Store front page with videos and pictures about the Steam Machines during this launch week, so people understand what it is, what's its purpose and where people can buy it. It's not going to sell if nobody knows its existence.

They have 1600+ games available on launch day. No other console in the history of gaming had even 10% of that on launch. Valve has to use this as a huge advantage to sell more Steam Machines.

I hope it's a success, because I'm quite tired of the limitations of consoles, that try to be a PC, but will never be. I have Nintendo consoles, but man, if their games weren't amazing, I would just stick with PC (Linux) for the win.

Man... really, the Steam Machines are coming with with so many indies and AAA games available on launch day that if SteamOS fails, it will be because the lack of advertisement.

I can't see any good reason other home consoles are better than SteamOS. Only if someone loves a particular exclusive.

Quoting: mrdeathjrNormally official ppa stay outdated ( :'( ) however Rico Tzschichholz ppa* have more updated wine vanilla ppa (normally compile lastest wine vanilla around 2 days however sometimes take around 5 or 6 days)
https://launchpad.net/~ricotz/+archive/ubuntu/unstable

I remember that the official PPA used to get updates pretty fast, not like two and a half months without updates... but oh well, I guess I'll have to check this PPA out.

Survival Game 'Rust' Fixes Linux Issues, Some Thoughts
4 February 2015 at 10:23 pm UTC

All servers are wiped every week. Sometimes twice a week. So you have to build everything again and again. It's ok in the beginning, but after the fourth time, it gets boring. Their engine can't keep up with a lot of stuff built into the server, so that's one of the reasons everything is wiped for every weekly update.

To understand the game, I highly recommend that firstly you go to an empty server and try everything by yourself, like a personal "tutorial".

But, to quickly explain, to play Rust, you never trust anybody in the server. Only if you're playing with friends over Skype/TeamSpeak/Mumble/etc, but either way it's going to be very hard to find your friends as this game lacks a map/cartography system.

Rust has a lot of potential, but for now, I would just wait.
