GOL's Linux & SteamOS gamer survey results for November

Quoting: TheBoss
Quoting: kellerkindtDid you ever try Cinnamon as desktop?
Its a quiet decent one, without that fancy large icons popping from everywhere in your face.
I did, but my experience was soured by the major bug it had a while back with the desktop constantly pausing for a second every now and then, and I had it quite often. Apparently it's fixed now, but I've no current plans to move. Cinnamon is lovely though, their attention to detail is awesome. Clem even implemented a few features I directly requested to him in Nemo such as giving you the option to set something executable when trying to launch it, instead of the old message of telling you it's not executable (yep, that was at my request).

Neat, I think I need to thank you for that :3

Was just a matter of time to encounter a 'piss-poor' motivated developer :P
Looks like he didn't even test it locally? Just pressed 'Release for Linux'?

Steam Controller On Ubuntu, A Tweak You Need To Do
20 October 2015 at 3:00 pm UTC

Anyone got it running with Shadow of Mordor?
Contacted Feral (since I added the udev rule):
QuoteHi Michael,

Thank you for your purchase of Shadow of Mordor.

We have checked and the Steam Controller works just fine in SteamOS (with custom prompts for the buttons etc) however on Ubuntu (another supported distro) the pad is not recognised at all.

We believe that Valve are looking into providing support for Ubuntu and other distros, but for the moment if you want to use the Steam Controller in the game you will have to use SteamOS.

Best Regards,

Gerard

EDIT: Got it working by setting myself the owner of /dev/uinput AND restarting the controller. But thats still only a workaround...

My First Hours With A Steam Controller

I got mine since yesterday, and I really like it.

Never had another controller before, but when I visited my friends,
I was able to play with theirs (ps3, ps4). The controls - especially the sticks - were
kinda hard to get used to. The touchpad is a lot nicer.

The community thing is also really nice, playing rust is fine (aiming with the
touchpad is still harder than with the mouse), but having the crouch and sprint
keys mapped to the back, while being able to aim and finally shoot with the same
button feels just right.

There are some issues with the Steam Link that need to be fixed. First of all, getting the whole monitor
setup streamed to the TV on BigPicture mode is awful (3 monitor setup -> 5760x1080
gets downscaled to 1920x1080). And also no controls for Portal 2 work at all (its said that
they are really good for their controller). Hopefully that gets ironed out in the next days :)

All in all, I am really happy with them, and I am also looking forward to get more 'native'
controller support (looking at you, Banner Saga - altough it plays quite well with the mouse
emulation) and the community mappings.

EDIT: fixed missing Steam Link mention

Co-Op Stealth Game Clandestine May See a Linux Port

Nice to see people getting used to the thought making their game available for Linux.

I just hope Steam Machine will not be a flop, since some developers really have quite high expectations.
Nothing would hurt the Linux community more than disappointing sales of Steam Machines.

Fingers crossed.

But how many Titans do you need to play that with decent fps? ;)

Based on the comments, you shall not be afraid :)
Mine is still downloading...
