What games do you want ported to Linux? Feral Interactive want to know again
11 August 2017 at 11:56 pm UTC

I will keep telling this Square Enix is one of the AAA publishers that hired Feral recently. Therefore, porting remaining Deus Ex titles is a doable task. In fact, Human Revolution was ported into macOS by Feral. The original Deus Ex which used Unreal Engine 1 had an OpenGL renderer. Invisible War used Unreal Engine 2 which supports OpenGL. The Fall has already been natively ran on Linux by using a compatible Unity Engine build by a Russian user. As you see, Feral can port the rest Deus Ex titles with less investment and no risk. This really should happen.

Timothee Besset? Man, this is the guy we owe our gaming enjoyment during the dark days of Linux gaming.

  • Quake III Arena

  • Return to Castle Wolfenstein

  • Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

  • Doom 3

  • Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil

  • Quake 4

  • Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

  • Quake Live

In fact, I just played an ETQW clan match and I still cannot believe that I am able to play such masterpiece on Linux natively. I hope he keeps making quality contribution to UE4.

Looks like the DOSBox wrapped Linux version of STAR WARS: Dark Forces might make it to Steam

Well, I got the game on Steam during one of the Jedi Knight sales years ago. If they won't implement some sort of vertical mouse look, I'll just pass. Shame, XL Engine source port couldn't mature for more than half decade...

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III releasing for Linux on June 8th

All right, let me try to be civilized in that matter.

When it comes to Linux gaming, everyone becomes an expert in an instant. I am well aware calculation differences between OS, it is expected especially if there are more than one team work on the project; Relic and Feral. I can easily forgive DoW2 and other older titles for not having "proper" cross platform multiplayer, but having a fresh release without cross platform multiplayer hurts a lot. I wonder, when exactly did Feral and Sega made the deal for DoW3? It must be during the game was under development, I hardly think otherwise. So, why didn't Feral request usage of cross-platform compliers and middleware? Having decently functioning cross platform multiplayer widens the lifespan of the title, makes more people to purchase the product; everybody wins. From this point I lost my faith in Feral's Sega ports. It is obvious that Feral cannot demand Linux friendly development environment from Sega even for upcoming titles. I better wait for summer sale to get DoW2 which at least has worth playing single player campaigns.

Lastly, installing Linux to my friends' computers in order to play with them? Sure, I would do that 6 years ago but not any longer; that's how you become "free of charge IT guy". No thanks.

Regards.

Looks like the Linux version of POSTAL Redux is being worked on

Don't expect something epic. The original Postal was quite special for its time but it didn't aged well at all. Comparing to Postal 2, it is plain and pointless. I got it couple years ago thanks to Linux support. However, the gameplay was so weak for my taste that I uninstalled it without planning a revisit. I don't expect anything special from redux release. If you really want to support the dev, just get Postal 2 and its DLC.

The Linux port of Xenonauts is not supported and was only made for 'legacy customers'

As it is a single player game, my expectation and explanation as follows:

Thanks to stubborn and weird release cycle of the most popular GNU/Linux distro, Ubuntu, developers need to update and adapt their titles for every LTS release. When SteamOS and Steam client updates are added to this equation, some developers simply stop sopporting the games after certain LTS release. Most of the games should still work fine anyway, but in time, outdated dependencies might prevent those games to function properly or even launch. This won't be an issue for now but after half decade, you will wonder for what reason certain games do not work any longer... Does any one remember icculus' Medal of Honor Allied Assault beta port which is literally impossible to natively run on modern distros currently? That is why having "source code" matters...

Feral Interactive are teasing yet another Linux game
9 May 2017 at 7:16 pm UTC Likes: 3

Quoting: LeopardDoom , Skyrim and Witcher 3 titles are so desperately needed. Well, they're more mainstreamed and well known titles. Shogun and DoW are not so helpful to Linux.

Have you bothered checking Feral's contracted publishers recently or ever? Are you aware that Bethesda does not work with third party porters? Did you you notice CD Project Red's games are Direct3D exclusives to the point only eON wrapped got around with it, once. You are claiming that Linux needs fast paced shooters; did you know that before 2012, majority of known Linux supported titles are id Software and Epic's fast paced shooters?

Wishing amazing titles like Doom (2016) is okay but bringing that one and Skyrim in every Feral news is pointless. So, I suggest you to stop expecting Linux ports of Bethesda titles; instead asking titles of Sega, Square Enix, Codemasters, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, 2K Games would be more realistic.

Quoting: GuestWhy people would love this to be Battlefield 1? The game was mediocre what I have seen. Pretty graphics, yes (Frostbite engine is really good, but it is directx heavy AFAIK).

Well, pretty much the same people who do not bother checking the original publishers of Feral's previous Linux ports... Expecting Feral to come up with an EA or Bethesda port out of blue extremely unlikely; yet some naives keep crying for Battlefield and Skyrim... Hack, we have a useful tool called SteamDB which indicates potential Feral ports in 10 km, yet some wishes for mobile games or console games... It looks like Linux gaming extended to a point which includes "average gamers" who usually do not bother investigating. For some point of view, it is not a bad thing but seeing same wishes for every Feral tease makes me tired.

Sega, Square Enix, Codemasters, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, 2K Games are the publishers that Feral has contracts with. Please keep your expectations realistic.

I would love to say original Dawn of War; but given the fact that there are at least 5 Feral related branches of Dawn of War III on SteamDB, it is most probably DoW3.

I don't find DoW3 extremely bad but I would rather prefer playing the original DoW online.

Valve have changed how gifting games works
5 May 2017 at 7:49 am UTC

Quoting: BeemerAs long as this is implemented, I'll only be buying games for myself from now on. That means no more four-packs either to give out copies later.

Well, the new system may not cover current 4-pack games. Those packs are designed to gift them later. But, two/three/four-pack system would be revamped as well; that might clarify your fears...
