Has anyone successfully compiled the source? Despite the fact that I use Linux for years, I still suck at code level. Any instructions?

There should be various reasons. PS3 was released a year later than Xbox 360, therefore struggled a lot to gain market share. Support for "other" OS was a part of policy to advert the device accessible. After gaining the market advantage, Sony returned to their usual policy of screwing anything else which is not Sony. Sounds like Apple, is it not? ;-)

Quoting: wvstolzingI wonder why Sony initially had official support for Linux on the PS2 (link, as well as the PS3 (link, only to remove it wholly afterwards. It's not like they had Steam to worry about back then.

Hmm, let me think. I have over 160 game on my Steam wishlist, I better clean it. :-P My mid-end laptop will arrive tomorrow and I will probably play the games that are already in my Steam account. Hack, 165 of 245 games in my account GNU/Linux compatible and I did not play even a quarter of them... Therefore, I am not planning to buy many stuff.
Games the I will definetly get:
- QUAKE Collection
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/434/
- Monochroma
http://store.steampowered.com/app/265830
- Transistor
http://store.steampowered.com/app/237930
Games that I may get if there will be 85-90% discount:
- Jets'n'Guns Gold
http://store.steampowered.com/app/262260
- Painkiller Hell & Damnation
http://store.steampowered.com/app/214870

- Don't Starve MEGA PACK
http://store.steampowered.com/bundle/312/
- Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty Complete Edition
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/88110/
- Grim Fandango Remastered
http://store.steampowered.com/app/316790

Well, despite the fact I do not approve the annual Worms games, more GNU/Linux games are always welcomed. However, never fixed lack of gamepad support for Linux on Clan Wars still makes me concerned.

Well, it is already possible to run the classic SS games on Linux natively. Some months ago, I downloaded the beta Linux installer of the game; extracted it to the Windows installation of the game; with some improvisation the Linux "executable" was able to launch the game. I have some ancient libs to run older games though...

Quoting: GrimfistVery nice of Croteam, this is why I buy their linux games.
Does this actually mean we can play Serious Sam First & Second Encounter natively on Linux?
I own both for Windows on Steam, so assets are there, I just need a Linux executable ;)

For casual gaming Gravity Badgers and Canabalt. For my passion for old school shooters; Strife: Veteran Edition and Unreal Tournament (1999)'s single player mod Xidia Gold. Despite the fact Xidia is nowhere near polished as Operation: Na Pali, it is still quite a challenging mod which resembles the original Unreal.
