"But it would also run better if you format it and install Windows on it too."

What an idiotic comment!

Frozenbyte are now telling Linux users to use Proton, even for their older games

As I mentioned in a previous post, successful Steam Deck means developers will start doing native ports, because that will simply be easier for them with more guaranteed results than going through Proton. The issue is just about deciding to properly support Linux rather than an issue of how difficult it is to do native ports. Native ports are definitely easier than using Proton if you are using an engine that supports Linux (like Unity or UnrealEngine)

If the Steam Deck is successful eventually developers will start producing Linux builds themselves, as it'll be easier to select Linux as a build target in your game engine than to produce a Windows build and run it through wine and try to investigate issues while an extra layer is sitting between your code and the OS.
The problem right now isn't that producing a Linux build is hard, it's actually easier than using Wine (if you are using a game engine with Linux support that is); the problem is that developers aren't interested in targetting Linux in the first place.

Atari VCS finally actually launches (in the US) on June 15

Sounds promising. I can see a lot of people interested in such a device, especially that it has a full Chrome browser, something that no other console/media center has.

Free and open source RTS 0 A.D. Alpha 25 to release in June with feature-freeze imminent

Quoting: omer666I really hope some day they will get to the beta stage, it's such a great effort.

I really don't understand why it's still labelled as alpha when it's more polished than many released commercial games. It's really production ready and doesn't need the alpha label, nor even the beta label.

There, fixed the title for you.

Too bad Valve never really wanted to sell them to anyone. Just like the Steam Link. If they'd actually been easily available for purchase then they would have sold a ton. In Norway, you couldn't really get one outside of Ebay.

I agree. Valve doesn't seem to be serious about selling hardware. I still remember the lame launch of the Steam Machines.

Too bad they are discontinued. We desperately need a second version.

The Steam Controller deserves to be wildly successful. Valve just seems pretty meh when they market hardware.

Indeed. A second version with a better build quality is needed, and is probably all it takes to have the steam controllers take off, aside from better marketing that is. Seriously, why did Valve market these as keyboard/mouse replacement rather than simply a better controller with higher precision?
