These results are more realistic. 2.5x performance boost is just too much for just an API switch.

I am guessing the bigger part of the performance boost is coming from the OpenGL version not being as optimized as it should. There is no way Vulkan (or any API for that matter) can make this much difference. However, this is probably an indication that it's easier to optimize the code under Vulkan than it is under OpenGL, which by itself is enough reason to introduce Vulkan. Good job Feral, and Khronos too.

Good to hear. I think they will have to start opening things if they want to remain in the lead, otherwise AMD will slowly take over.

I don't like the idea. First, we'll have an extra layer that is only needed for political reasons, not technical reasons. Second, Microsoft and Apple will still try their best to undermine this new initiate just as they are trying to undermine Vulkan so we'll still eventually end up in the same situation. The solution to this mess is in the hands of game studios; if they don't want to target multiple APIs then they can simply target Vulkan and that will allow them to run their code on all platforms (MacOS and iOS can run Vulkan using MoltenVK).

Not easy to find someone to donate ~1000$, but if we can get 5 or 6 persons to donate 150$ each specifically for the VR we can get GOL a Vive. I'm ready to put 150$ myself. Anyone else?

Great to see it happen finally. But VR is very expensive for me right now :(

I bought an Oryx Pro, an older release with gtx 980m. Highly recommended if you are looking for a Linux gaming PC. The specs and the customizability are great.
The price may be a bit higher than a competition with similar specs, but you won't get the same level of support, nor will you get a BIOS flashed with a more Linux compatible firmware from other vendors. I know this because at the beginning they shipped me a laptop with the incorrect firmware. Then I contacted support and they guided me through detecting BIOS version and realized their mistake, so they shipped me a replacement and carried all the shipping costs of the replacement. The minor random glitches I was seeing disappeared with the correct BIOS.

Good to hear. Talos on Vulkan is much faster than on OGL, but still not as fast as DX.
