What's up with that graphics? It hurts my eyes more than the picture of the blue/black dress.
Valve Developed Own Vulkan Driver For Intel, They Demo Dota 2 On Source 2

Awesome news. Yeah, I expect Vulcan to be much easier to implement than OpenGL since it's a simplified API.

Quoting: blackout24Quoting: sarmadThe slide says "Vulcan supported ACROSS THE BOARD on Steam Machines". I assume this means both AMD and nVidia have Vulcan drivers for Linux in development.
They demoed NVIDIA drivers during the talk and the later Vulkan sessions on Windows. Since the only thing different between NVIDIA drivers across platforms is a small shim to abstract the OS it would probably work in a few weeks. The Imagination Technology guys (two of them) wrote their Vulkan driver for PowerVR in just two months.

Does anyone know what do they mean by "multimedia playback"? I don't find any multimedia playback features in Steam client. Does SteamOS offer more than what Steam client do?

Using any sort of metrics right now is not really valid until Valve declares clearly their intentions. There are actually a couple of worrying signs lately:
* Valve mentioned the Steam Machines, but for a developer conference (which is what GDC is) you would expect them to mention SteamOS, but they didn't. So, could Steam Machines come loaded with Windows instead?
* The latest update to Unreal Engine 4 did not support Linux, not yet at least.
We'll have to wait until next week to be sure what goes on in Valve's mind. But so far the skepticism of the analysts isn't totally invalid.

Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty Released On GOG & Steam, We Take A Look At The Linux Port

Outland looks very interesting. Sadly for me it seem to require a powerful GPU. They recommend Radeon HD 6850, which is on the level of XB1, too much for a laptop.

Quoting: facelessOutland (a platformer with Ubisoft logo!!!) is also out for linux/steamOS.

Speculation: Here's The Possible List Of Games Valve Will Demo At GDC

I highly doubt any of the last 4 games in the list will be native. I also highly doubt HL3 will be announced at GDC. Something like HL3 will most probably be saved for E3. Any real AAA games will probably not come to Linux until the end of 2015 at the earliest and those will be new games that are powered by the latest Unreal and Cry engines. It makes no sense for Valve to focus on porting older games whose fans have already played. Spending the effort on making new games available is easier on the technical side and more feasible on the business side.
