Quoting: fagnerlnI hate sony and most of their woke exclusives (not sure if it's the case of this specific game, but I don't care anyway), so I have a little interest in this game...This particular game isn't 'woke'. Assassins Creed: Shadows on the other hand. Talk about some immersion breaking choice of characters for the era the game takes place in...
However, why are we complaining about this? It's nice that it at least run! There's a lot of games that disallow to play single player game because of online bullshit. For example is FIFA/EA-FC, I have no interest in playing that online-loot-box mode, I only want to play a local 1v1 against my friend, which I can't because of anti cheat.
So I think that this is better than nothing... Sony isn't that bad with Linux support.

Quoting: SakuretsuDidn't even know this game had a multiplayer mode and personally couldn't care less about it.It was fun. One of the few games I've played to the end. Usually, I get bored and move onto something else.
The only reason I'm considering buying GoT is because of the single-player experience.

I beat this on the PS4, but had no idea actually that they added a Multiplayer, doesn't seem like it'd be a game that'd work well as multiplayer anyhow.
With a Nintendo Switch 2 on the way, I hope Valve make a Steam Deck 2

Ha, I think about such things a lot, as I try to design my own campaign settings for games. Like how legends form, how religions form (as some of them definitely seem to form from the legends, or even to the point where stuff like 'Oh, the gods gave birth to him, he was a demigod!' certainly could be added to a story to make it more incredible and captivating, or simply some way to excuse a hero that pulled off amazing feats.
Some myths and legends are simply used to describe events that happened in nature. I think as far as Zechariah Sitchin's work goes, the most intriguing thing is his idea that the cosmology of the planets being described in plays by the Babylonians to describe how the solar system was formed. That's just a really cool concept!

Quoting: tuubiI actually don't think he was, and that it's just the oldest version of the Epic that we've found. Just like a lot of the old testament stuff has equivalent stories found on old tablets once we started digging up the Sumerian stuff. A whole lot of them refer to a time before the great deluge, where there was much art and culture destroyed.Quoting: slaapliedjeIs it weird how much I want to just write an entire thesis on how Gilgamesh and Hercules are so similar that many of the key story points for the two could be assumed that Hercules likely stole a lot of elements from Gilgamesh, or in fact the hero stories of the Greeks just expanded on the original Sumerian? And why do we assume that Gilgamesh is original, and not simply a collection of earlier myths and stories that were never written down?

Ages ago, someone came up with an idea for a true successor to the Amiga (since there were AmigaNG systems that required PPC, and otherwise old Amiga's stagnated with AGA). One of the first things they wanted was a Super AGA chipset (SAGA). It was also developed along with an m68k successor, an '68080' CPU. This became the Vampire. The current version of the vampire (version 4) comes in several forms; V4SA (Vampire 4 Stand Alone) and Accelerator boards, A500, A600, A2000, A2000. The A3000/A4000 one is in design stage, I believe.
The V4SA you can kind of think of as sort of a MiST type thing in size, but is dedicated solely to M68k FPGA cores. It started off basically as an all Amiga compatible system. Right now the designers are working hard on getting Atari ST implemented, and of course the Mac side of things is very well emulated already via Shapeshifter on the Amiga side. Fun little device, for sure!

Quoting: PenglingThe Vampire? I'll try and give a short version of it...Quoting: slaapliedjeYou should buy one of these! https://www.shop.apollo-computer.com/ Amiga platform, they're currently working hard on getting Atari ST platform supported, and the Amiga side already can outperform emulating a mac classic as well!I've never heard of these before! What are they, exactly?

Quoting: PhlebiacI don't know if there are newer stats available, but anecdotally I think tablet use peaked around then, and has declined a lot since.I struggled to find more recent ones because I didn't know where to look - many thanks for digging those up.
Edit: here's some recent browser stats, which have it at around 2%
https://gs.statcounter.com/platform-market-share/desktop-mobile-tablet
I didn't look exhaustively, but I think it peaked at less than 7%
https://gs.statcounter.com/platform-market-share/desktop-mobile-tablet/worldwide/2014
And was already on the decline when mobile overtook desktop
https://gs.statcounter.com/platform-market-share/desktop-mobile-tablet/worldwide/2016
It's still just as sad of a picture, though, since for all intents and purposes "Mobile" and "Tablet" are the same thing here, with people opting to use phones and tablets (all running the same mobile OSes) interchangeably for internet tasks, instead of PCs - when you put the two together, you get 60% of the market in favour of the mobile/tablet side (with an unknown amount of the PCs also being portables themselves, I'm sure).

Consoles at this point, are likely to die off... They actually are needing those shorter refresh cycles (hence the PS4 Pro and upcoming PS5 Pro, or even the Switch OLED). Games are just coming out for them that won't run at even 60fps, let alone the 144fps that a lot of TVs have now. I think both Sony and Microsoft see the writing on the wall, and are possibly planning on just killing off the consoles in the next decade...
Then again, I've also been seeing a lot about a video game crash happening soon, because much like the one in the 80s, there are just a bunch of games coming out that are trash, too expensive and trash, or just DLC you to death.
Time to fire up those Amigas, Atari STs or DOS systems and play the loads of games that released for them that you never had time to get to! Or even the loads of new games that have been coming out for them!
TL;DR, I'm keeping my money from Nintendo.

Quoting: ShmerlWell, modern consoles and past consoles are completely a different ball game. These days, with the exception of Nintendo, they just take an AMD built system, throw it into a case and slap an OS on them. Nintendo did basically the same with an nvidia ARM SoC, but had a tablet with detachable controllers, just makes it ARM vs x86. But the previous consoles actually required a lot of R&D. So a 4-6 year cycle made a lot more sense. Consoles also, in a lot of ways, could surpass ease of use and stability over a computer. Not to mention cost of gaming hardware in the early 90s for a computer vs say the Genesis / SNES was huge. Even the 'cheap' gaming computers were ~500 vs the consoles (which were 100-150).Quoting: slaapliedjeIf the latter group, it should realistically have a similar cadence of release as the console market does.
There definitely is a difference in thought processes between the people who game on computers, and those who use gaming consoles.
I've always seen that console refresh cadence as indication of lack of competition. Imagine desktop GPU and CPU makers would have a monopoly. I highly doubt they'll invest so much money in refreshing hardware as they do now. Same applies to mobile market. They'll try to market their slow progress as "it's good enough" to make that the user's expectation.
So if console market would have been more competitive, we also would have seen refresh cycles being much shorter. At least that's what I think is the real reason.
I.e. that whole "console expectation" is a marketing construct, not something inherently defined.

There definitely is a difference in thought processes between the people who game on computers, and those who use gaming consoles. I've always been more of a computer gamer, even though I do own a few consoles, I don't use them very often (sadly the Deck included). Most of the time the games themselves don't really need or use the latest GPU features anyhow. A portable computer, like the Steam Deck, shouldn't really be expected to run the latest Unreal Engine 5 games that are coming out soon, or some of the AAA gaming that is out there. Then again, with a large majority of the AAA games becoming stupidly greedy (Hi, Ubisoft), it's probably a great thing overall that we can just give them the finger as they won't run very well on a portable system anyhow.
As for Nintendo releasing a new console? Who knows if they'll even do a Switch 2, they usually like to change up the gaming industry with something weird/unique. That's the only reason I even bought a Switch. If the Steam Deck had been available then, I really would have rather bought one of those. After Nintendo's recent shenanigans, I'd be surprised if anyone around here supports them in any way. Though I know there are some hard core Nintendo fans, I'm old enough to remember Atari being king, and think I'd rather have a portable VCS 800. :P

Quoting: ShmerlDepends on who Valve want to target for the Steam Deck. Is it PC gamers that already going to have a Desktop, and the Deck just turns their gaming experience into a portable one? Or are they trying to target the console gaming market, where people would only play their gaming library on the Deck, whether Docked or not? If the latter group, it should realistically have a similar cadence of release as the console market does.Quoting: eldakingIt is far too early to release a Deck 2
Why? Desktop generation of CPUs and GPUs refresh around once per 2 years. Same happens with mobile phones. Why can't gaming handhelds refresh that way too?
Quoting: eldakinghe benefits of a standardized hardware target are negated by too frequent changes
That somehow doesn't bother desktop gaming.
Waste can be an issue, but you aren't forced to buy new hardware every time there is a generation update.
