Valve seeing increasing bug reports due to Steam Snap - other methods recommended
17 January 2024 at 8:01 pm UTC Likes: 1

Quoting: kerossinI've been running Steam Flatpak on openSUSE Tumbleweed for over a year (maybe 2 years, can't remember) and had no problems.

Would be great if Valve would officially support Steam Flatpak, it would cover a lot more distros than just the Debian family but I believe it wouldn't be that much more work since it uses specific versions of Flatpak runtimes.

Edit: Also, funny how they hired more devs to work on Snap support in other distros while their own doesn't work properly yet.
Don't they already support flatpak version of Steam? Isn't that what the Steamdeck uses? (Maybe not, I'd have to look).

Quoting: PenglingX posting about X on X, which people are viewing with X? ARGH!

This frustration is making me click the x button on the top-right of this window...
The proper place for the X button, looking at you, Apple! I've looked up how to flip that to the other side on macOS, and apparently the Almighty Apple has spoken and does not allow such things... All other operating systems I've ever used has it on the right side... but not macOS...

Nice! Though I have decided there are a lot of games that are being touted as Steam Deck certified that, while being playable on the Steam Deck, are not appropriate to do so... A good example of this is something like Control... you can play it on there just fine, but it feels so much better on a larger screen... I'm specifically talking about games where your character is simply too large to get a lot of the scenery around you to be visible. Another example, I've been switching back and forth between my desktop (with a 3840x1200 43" super ultrawide screen) and the Steam Deck, and it's definitely much easier to see where all the collectibles are on the huge screen.

This is probably obvious of course... :P Platformers, emulation, etc are all very awesome on the Steam Deck. I just think third person ones (unless your character is much smaller) seem to be a bit less awesome. I haven't tried any strategy games yet. I'll have to check some of them out.

Ubisoft think gamers need to get comfortable with not owning games

Quoting: ObsidianBlkFor those physical discs that have a higher than average ripping difficulty (looking at you, OG XBox discs), finding a rip online isn't horribly difficult either.
Crack kills... but it also preserves old software. :P

Quoting: PeakI'll flip it back to them. I think Ubisoft needs to get comfortable with me not owning their games
I think that was their point, right? They should get comfortable not getting any licensing fees. :)

This is part of the reason I'm more impressed by people who make games / update old ones for 'retro' systems.

I'd rather support people here these days than the greedy fat corps that have just gotten entirely too greedy.

Quoting: slaapliedjeThis should be posted on X and break everyone's brain. :P

It took me a minute to realize how posting anything to a window system made any sense.
Haha, indeed. I'm betting Elon would have taken over X.org if he could.

Old World - Wonders & Dynasties is a content-filled DLC out now

Quoting: CatKillerThis has been on my wishlist for a while, but with my Deck for games to cozily finish and my desktop for spectacle games, and having recently started something from the category of "new timesink games that anchor you to a desk," it'll be a while till I get round to it.
Ha, I hear ya. My 'timesink' right now is Lego Skywalker Saga, I switch between the Deck and my desktop. I'm close to 100% on everything and achievements!

Is this a lot of fun? I bought the base game when it came out, but never got around to playing it. But have been in the mood to play a Civilization type game, but haven't the patience to play Civ6...

Quoting: gradyvuckovicFirst hint they provide is a dark image showing the RGB colourful lighting rings around what is no doubt the joysticks and already immediately I have absolutely zero interest in the device.

I'm sooooo completely over the overkill of RGB lighting in everything 'GAMERRRR!' related in the world of tech right now. Next PC I buy is going to be a black metal box and I'm going to shop around to find all the components I can get with the fewest number of lights possible, and any lights remaining after that, I'm going to black em out with permanent marker.

haha! I'm in the exact same boat my friend. Last pc I built in 2020 was with a bequiet matte black case. It's just a black metal rectangle with some vents in it, and that's it. I love this case. It was kind of sad though, a LOT of the other components I had to manually go turn off the garbage RGB I didn't even know they had. Both the ram I bought and the mobo had defaulted on blinky nonsense that was so irritating. I had to go into the bios and disable it.
But if they ditched all the RGB they couldn't add all that extra cost to it! Can you imagine components lacking all the RGB nonsense and the overall price you'd actually save if they provided alternatives to that? It's legit difficult to find motherboards these days without all the stuff that we clearly don't give a crap about...
