Dome Keeper hits 1 million players - multiplayer and modding support to come

Ha, Dome Keeper hits 1 million... and yet Concord hit like 700 players, and was murdered by Sony two weeks after release. This just makes me think back to the early days of video games where a single dude in his basement, or the back of some store writes up a game that everyone wants. It has never made sense to me that it takes massive funding and the amounts of money that hollywood movies take to make games.

Outside of something insane like Star Citizen, I don't see why the budgets need to be so large for video games... then again, part of the budget these days is to higher voice actors. Using good ol' text I bet saves a whole heap of money.

Ah, I understand . . . because after all, only Tom Cruise is allowed to do that.
Ha, I swore of any Tom Cruise or Steven Spielberg movies after that atrocity they called War of the Worlds. Though I did give in and see Top Gun: Maverick, which was surprisingly good.

But nah, I don't think it was great when he was a Samurai either.

Quoting: SalvatosI think when they say "'departing' from the Season Pass model with everyone getting access at the same time", they mean that season passes will no longer include early access? Which may be entirely to avoid too many players saying that the game sucks before everyone else can buy it blindly.

Focusing on GaaS is an agenda, right?
Considering the wording, this sounds to me like a vague allusion to gender politics. Trying to convince far-right nutjobs that they haven’t "gone woke"? I’m not sure. I don’t know what the "polarized comments around Ubisoft lately" are other than whether or not Star Wars Outlaws was any good.
The two I've seen is the 'we're making a game taking place in Japan be about a black guy, that historically may or may not have been trained in the ways of the samurai' and for Star Wars Outlaws, I've just seen the excuse that they're uglifying the characters over what the real actress who they modeled the character after.

QuoteWe are departing from the traditional Season Pass model. All players will be able to
enjoy the game at the same time on February 14 and those who preorder the game
will be granted the first expansion for free.
Season passes aren't traditional, they started a bit more than a decade ago and popularized themselves about a decade ago. It really isn't traditional when compared to the still ongoing practice of releasing a game and that's it, some updates to fix bugs and performance problems but that's about it. So still probably doing a season pass but not having preorders for it or maybe announcing it until 2-4 months after the initial game release.
I always thought season passes were the method by which you basically pre-order DLC that may or may not actually ever be released for a slightly discounted price? At least that's the way I've always seen it being used.

Quoting: slaapliedjeYup, even if you have physical media, if it has DRM on it, there's potential for an OS update that'll ban that DRM (safedisc anyone?) so all those physical disks are now useless (well, unless you know where NoCD cracks are).

Yeah, but it's super-easy to make "backup" copies of physical media - heck, I just got my hands on the very last title in the MCU today, and I'm "ripping" the entire collection to my home theater as I type this; or, if you want to keep it on-point, it's relatively easy to extra a game from a disc and / or find a so-called "no CD crack".
Easy for us; less so for your average person.

Quoting: Cyba.CowboyThis is the most obvious downside to going all-digital, and a big part of the reason console manufactures are pushing this for the future... All-digital means you don't "own" anything and can have your purchase taken away at any time.

Wrong. It's the most obvious downside of using DRM. All digital DRM-free allows you to make your own backups, and no one can take it away at any time then any more than physical media you store it on. So if anything, GOG is the example of why DRM-free is important to prevent that.

I haven't heard of any of those games. They delisted The Suffering 1&2, but those were awesome and I already own them. My guess is usually that means a new bundle will appear...

Looking to upgrade your Steam Deck? How about some fancy metal buttons

Quoting: chickenb00I watched a YouTube tutorial recently on how to swap steam deck buttons, and it's an arduous process. Looks like it would take 30-60 minutes just to get to where you would have access to the button caps. Then you have to put it all back together !
Really? I swapped out the analog sticks in my LCD one and it only took like 10m, and I was doing it very slowly. The buttons seemed like they were just right there to do along with that.
