As per the update on the article you’re referencing, the issues were reversed. I still don’t like X or Elon but for now it is a valuable tool and I continue to steer people to alternatives. Anyway, that is nothing to do with this article 👍
I didn't like Twitter before it was cool to do so. Haha!

It's a shame this finally comes at a time when nexus mods have irritated at least some of their users by doing shenanigans with banning accounts, etc.

I wished more games would just support the Steam Workshop for mods, it's far easier to apply things there!

How about this one? Old crack dot com version.

Used to love this game back in the day. There was a game on the Amiga, Walker, that had a similar play style.

Quoting: anewsonI think this marks the denouement of the latest VR push... seems like it's going to stay an optional nice-to-have for supported games.
I suppose it's sort of akin to having a HOTAS setup for flight simulators. Sure, you COULD play it with a keyboard and mouse... but are you really getting the full enjoyment out of the game? Like I can't even imagine playing Elite: Dangerous with a keyboard / mouse, or for that matter a gamepad, though I've tried this on the PS4, it just doesn't feel the same.

This is one of the reasons I prefer real hardware over emulation; half the enjoyment is from using the original control scheme.

I had a lot of fun with Elite using M+KB, then switched to HOTAS, eventually sold the HOTAS, and now I can't go back to Elite, it's just not the same :(
Yeah, the peripherals / controls definitely make you more immersed in the game. I need to fire it back up now that I got chair mounts for my Thrustmaster Warthog setup... granted, I'll need to re-learn the controls, since it's been quite a while since I played it.
"Thrustmaster".
Mounted in your chair, you say?
How else am I to derive pleasure from a game? If you're not doing it, you're gaming wrong! :P

Quoting: anewsonSpending the first 10 hours in and out of the control bindings screen is a classic elite W.
Ha, for sure. Though that's why I use a pre-created mapping. Got an etched layout for the Throttle control and everything.

Baldur's Gate 3 patch 4 brings AMD FSR 2.2, looking better on Steam Deck

Quoting: JarmerIndeed this patch has completely broken vulkan for everyone. In addition, when I run it in dx11 mode Shadowheart now refuses to move and just stands still. So .... I pretty much can't play the game if one character in my party will not move .... Seems they didn't do any testing on this patch at all. We will just have to wait on a hotfix. Hopefully they can get it out today before the weekend!

on my system using a 3090ti vulkan has been broken since patch 2. On release I was getting 75-120fps in vulkan then after patch 2 it was 30 and remains something like 30 while using vulkan. Whereas using directX I get the same or similar 75-120 fps. I use the proton-experimental.
Huh, I'll have to try it out on my 7800 XT, I usually just use DirectX because I was getting graphical corruption and lock ups with Vulkan. Lately, I've been playing RoboCop instead of BG3, not that I have many hours in BG3 either, but mostly due to the crashes.

It's not exclusive; it works with any VR headset that works with SteamVR. :P

I keep thinking 'why would you play something like this on the Deck, I would think it'd kind of suck.' Then I remembered South Park, makes more sense now.

I wish I didn't have terrible ADHD and a hatred for 5e, or I think I'd actually be able to enjoy the game :P

Quoting: CybolicOh, I just meant your average VR headset, like the Valve Index (or a standalone Meta Quest if you just want to try the whole VR thing out). I get that calling them "glasses" was a bit confusing, sorry about that.

LOL, Thanks, I was wondering if I was barking up the wrong tree there. I did hear about something like that though. I think maybe slaapliedje hit on it... "Virtual I/O glasses" but obviously not the same thing.
Ha, yeah the Virtual I/O Glasses are basically stereoscopic things with head tracking. They also hook up to a VGA port or composite, if I recall (I really should play around with the ones I ordered, I read they worked with the Amiga and kind of impulse bought them... then I think I found out there are two models, one for Amiga and composite stuff, and one for a VGA PC, and I think I got the latter.

I get on these kicks where I want more interactivity with games than just the typical mouse/keyboard/gamepad input.

Quoting: dziadulewiczThis survey appears not very useful until we get some absolute numbers. Also the "other" section includes probably Linuxes and then also Chrome OS is definitely Linux but is often left out from Linux share.

"Linux has nearly half of the desktop OS Linux market. It would be twice as much if people could stop arguing about who counts and who doesn't".

https://www.theregister.com/2023/07/18/linux_desktop_debate/
ChromeOS shouldn't be in the 'Desktop Linux' share, as it doesn't run normal Desktop Applications, right? As far as I know it's about as Desktop Linux as the Samsung Dex thing.
ChromeOS is a weird case. Because I mean, unlike Android it is actually Gnu/Linux (Android as I understand it is the first major example of a Linux without Gnu). Somewhere deep under the hood, ChromeOS is basically perfectly normal Linux. It's just, the Desktop Environment is serious crippleware. So like, yes, functionally, unless you do some weird stuff, it doesn't act like a real Linux, 'cause it won't run the normal Linux ecosystem of software (or much of any software, really). But then, I'm sure that's also true of whatever is running the box under my TV that came from my internet provider, and nobody says that isn't real Linux.

One could argue that ChromeOS is real Linux, but it's not real desktop Linux.
Yeah, that's why I said specifically Desktop Linux :) It's about 'Desktop Linux' as AtariOS is.
