Wow, VCS is still alive? That is pretty cool I guess. I am also interested to see where Atari goes from here!
Yeah, I'm surprised there isn't a bit more news here about it, as it's just as much a Linux gaming device as Steam Deck is... Granted, it's probably harder for Liam to actually get one since for some dumb reason they haven't been able to sell them very well (or at all) outside of the USA.

Ha, I've never really had issues with nvidia, with the exception of optimus stuff (which is it's own separate gnarly annoyance) and then started running into some specific software that was 'we're not going to fix this for nvidia, because reasons'. Thanks Red Hat. I swear since IBM bought them, they've been put up there on my list of 'screw you!' companies like Apple / Microsoft.

This game was SO good in VR. Though I'm not sure if it was 1k+ good, but it was REALLY good in VR. Wonder how much of it is not as grand in scale on a pancake screen.

Quoting: whizseBig, big mistake in looking up the G29 on the Logitech website. I couldn't help notice that they have a new set of pedals. Proper ones with a load cell. Well, guess that's the Christmas present for myself sorted...

The pedals was always the weakest point in the G29 package and even though these are the "pro" stuff there's an adapter available for the G-series. Pretty impressive for an eight year old product range.

Seems like the adapter got a serial connection just like the old pedals so I hope drivers wouldn't be a problem?
I have the Logitech G27. I really should set it up somewhere that I can strap on the Index and play some racers in VR...

Quoting: ShmerlFreelancer isn't highly acclaimed without a reason. It's a really good game.
Quoting: slaapliedjeThe only reason I didn't care for Freelancer as much as I otherwise would have was the switch to a mouse for the controls. Back in the day, I had loved the hell out of Starlancer, and played it with a force feedback joystick (which I've now acquired a Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro to play again!)

It would have been nice if someone had hacked in flight stick support to Freelancer.

Admittedly this ^ for a good part. While for the same reason it is remembered fondly for a lot of people since it opened up the genre for a wider audience it took quite a bit away for existing fans of it. It was also annoyingly balanced resulting in constantly getting dragged out of a lane by a pirate that then exploded in a single volley. Don't remember the story or missions being outstanding either, but it has been a while. Earlier games like 'Privateer' or 'Strike Commander' worked better for this particular game formula, while games like 'Tie Fighter' and 'Freespace' had better much better mission design and gameplay.
Yeah, I don't get why Freelancer didn't have the option for flight sticks / game pads or anything. Like they decided all the people who loved the space sims had sold their joysticks. I could be remembering things wrong, but it may have been the beginning of the end for the force feedback flight stick era.

Ha, Elite: Dangerous has a similar 'you just got pulled out of hyperspace' crap, usually I'm good enough to avoid being pulled fully out, it's just annoying when I'm trying to zip around and explore the galaxy.

I keep meaning to beat Freespace, and the rest of the Wing Commander games, I beat Privateer way back in the day, loved that game!

Quoting: dpanterAtari confuses everyone with their continued existence, operating at a net loss and making strange business moves.
You all remember their catastrophic attempt at a console in the Atari VCS which bombed completely and died with a sordid whimper before it was even born, but did you know about the Atari branded hotels and their investments in blockchain and Atari Tokens, or their weird push for social casinos and real-money gambling...
It's mind-boggling how they manage to keep the lights on at all.

In case you were curious about their finances, unimpressive as they are: ATARI: FY2023 ANNUAL RESULTS
The VCS hasn't died. I literally just bought 4 new games for it last night.

Your information is quite old, they got a new CEO who actually gives a crap bout Atari succeeding. This is why they've been making purchases. They're still bringing new games to the VCS, it allows indie developers to get a better percentage than Steam. Pretty sure they've also given up on the whole block chain stuff (though I think they still have the hotel?)

Their money for these purchases must be coming from somewhere. They're also releasing the Atari 2600+ (which seems to be an emulator system but has a proper cartridge port so you can play all your old 2600/7800 games on it). Seems to me they're doing all the right moves to try and resuscitate the Atari name, especially after all the delays of the VCS (which just happened to have issues because it seemed the initial 'hey, we're going to do a game console again!' seems to have been something they pulled out of the ether before they had anything more than a render. If they had been a bit smarter, they would have had some sort of hardware put together before announcing it, so the time between announcement and being in your hands was much shorter than the 4 years it took...)

They've learned from the VCS launch by now actually only announcing things about a month or two before it ships. If you look at what they've been up to since the VCS landed, you can definitely see an improvement in what they've been doing.

Owning the studios that have been doing remasters of old games is definitely something that speaks to them doing the right things; not to mention buying AtariAge.

Epic Games launch 'First Run' and 'Now On Epic' with 100% revenue for devs

Quoting: EriThey don't need to attract devs, they need to attract players. If better devs conditions doesn't translate in to better conditions for costumers, like cheaper games, why should I care about a half cooked launcher?
The only game I bought on the Epic Store was Mechwarrior 5... then I refunded it after about 10m, and decided I had enough games, I'd just wait until it was out on Steam. I'm already tired of having two main places (GOG / Steam) for my digital library of games to be.

Besides, with all the games I currently own on Steam / Gog, with even a lot of the the old 'I'll beat this eventually' ones on my list, and the fact that I realize it's usually funner trying to get the game to run in Linux than it is playing most of them... I never saw a reason to really use the epic game launcher.

Yeah for a moment it felt like I was looking at an Amiga magazine.
Have you checked out that Eye of the Beholder 1&2 got an AGA upgrade? I have tested the C128 port too, freaking awesome! I need to actually sit down and play that (two monitors and all!)

I need this in my life; though turn-based kind of takes away from the Dungeon Master feel. Though should make it a bit easier to control.
