Quoting: slaapliedjeI'm really curious about the editor too, otherwise the game ran great on Linux. Though they did have some weirdness with the Bink video player, but once you converted the videos to mpg or other standard video format, it worked well enough.
A bit off topic but do you have more infos on this? I'm currently reinstalling the game and while I've found a hack to play the bik movies, it would be better if I could use a better format. I assume the game would look only for the bik movies, do I simply convert them and it'll play whatever is in the dir as long as the file name without the extension is correct? do I have to "cheat" and rename mpg files to .bik? or is there another hack needed to play the videos in a different format?

Sorry for the late response, does look like others answered with nwmovies (which is good, because I had completely forgotten about that!)

Quoting: KimyrielleI still consider NWN the best computer game ever made. Only reason why I am not playing it anymore is the dated looks. If they can polish them enough to look not totally out of place on a 2017 PC, I can see me playing it a lot again. I think having the editor is a must, though. The game was great because it was essentially a $50 RPG game engine people could make their own games with. The official campaign isn't' all that good, though.

On the one hand it was phenomenal when it was released. On the other end of things, I think it was THE game that introduced the world to DLC. BUT with that being said, they did DLC the RIGHT way. 5 bucks for an adventure. This is the way it was meant to be.

On the other hand right after this game, Bethesda started releasing DLC for Oblivion and asked for 3 dollars for horse armor?

The awesome thing about NWN is that there are SO many old D&D modules that people converted for it, and the multiplayer doesn't completely suck.

Any of you guys play around with some of the community mods? The ones that added animations for climbing ropes, and all sorts of awesome stuff. http://www.neverwinternights.info/cep.htm

Quoting: ElvanexSweet! =D Neverwinter Nights was always my favorite of the classics. Glad to see it get a revamp. :)

Ha, if this is a 'classic' I'm freaking OLD!

This is awesome! Too bad I lost my old save game. I was close to winning the original campaign, I'm sure. Hard to do it with just a single wizard.

Stardock is planning to release 'Star Control: Origins' on Linux

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI played Star Control 2 back when . . . I couldn't believe it when I realized I could play it as Ur-Quan Masters on Linux (for free yet!) Such a great game. SC3 was actually pretty good IMO. Guess I didn't run into many of the bugs. Hmmm, wonder how that would go on Wine these days, I should dig up my copy.

I'm now trying to remember if it was SC3 had weak story line? I just remember that most didn't like it. I don't think I ever played the third one, which I think was only released on Windows. Ha, I thought I'd played SC2 on the Genesis, but it looks like only the first one was released for that. Seems you can play SC2 on Android as well.

Quoting: deathxxxSC is old DOS game(from time with Double Dragon, Bubble Bobble, Fatman, Digger and so on), now this is first time i see this game again, with improved graphics and for Linux.
The game is primary 1 vs 1 player. Every ship have different speed, shoot, missiles, special move. Some are tough and slow, some are fast and with low HP.
This game is reborn now, from long long time.

Ha, definitely is not THAT old. It came out in 1990 (Double Dragon was released in 1987, and Bubble Bobble in 1986), was created by the same team that did Archon. It's sort of similar to that, in that you have various aliens that you can battle against each other.

The second Star Control is where it was at. You had the Melee mode, that was in the first one, but then you had a sort of RPG thrown in, that was somewhat similar to Star Flight (Another great game that is dying for a sequel). Star Control 3 was regarded as a broken release, where it was buggy and frustrating and lead to a lot of people hating it.

You can play Star Control 2 in Linux natively via the Urquan Masters source port. http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

Quoting: neowiz73it's interesting to see Stardock warm up to linux. I hope this continues, even in other areas aside from games. their UX designs are nice and I've always thought they would be better suited for Linux than on Windows.

Yeah, some of their software seems to actually add thing s to Windows that Linux Desktop Environments have had for years.

I don't know if I'd say it's low on the list, it's after Mac and Windows, but before the gaming consoles! Star Control is a fantastic game, and it's about time a part 4 was released.

GOG now has Battle Chess Special Edition which includes three games for Linux

Quoting: silmethI’d totally buy those if they were Amiga versions packed with UAE and AROS kickstart, won’t pay for the DOS demakes though. ;-)

I used to play it on the ST, which I think both versions were identical, except I think the ST's version had more crack to the sound, whereas the Amiga was kind of built around using sound samples, so it produced a much cleaner (some would say unique) sound quality. It's a shame they never did a Paula II chip..

Wine 2.21 is out with Direct 3D indirect draws support, also fixes for The Witcher 3 and NieR:Automata

Tbe secret to Wine is to use something like PlayOnLinux. Then you can pin thw verio n of Wine per container.

It really is hit and miss. I think Astrokill was ported due to people requesting it on Steam. Sounds like they plan on eventually releasing Star Control: Origins for Linux, at least a developer had responded to the request for a Linux version and stated it was planned after the Mac verion. So I figure it can't hurt to ask.
