Yes, Jumpman, stupid phone...
Apparently it was inspired from Donkey Kong, so technically that's the other way around. From Wikipedia;

Quoting: elmapulQuoting: slaapliedjeI am still puzzled why Jumpan on the c64 is missing the awesome music in places that the Atari 8bit has.
Also wondering how Commodore got the later Ultimas after 4 ported, they were practially unplayable on the c64 with all the disk swapping.
you mean jumpman? it became mario :v

QuoteJumpman came about after Glover saw Donkey Kong[13][14] in a local Pizza Hut (having replaced Pac Man).[15] This led him to become interested in making a version for home computers. He visited a local computer store who had the TI-99/4A and Atari 400. He initially purchased the TI-99 due to its better keyboard,[16] but when he learned the graphics were based on character set manipulation, he returned it the next day and purchased the Atari.[17]

Only problem with that logic is that Commodore and Amiga never really made Video Games, only hardware and all of their patents / IP have been completely plundered.

Quoting: pbQuoting: slaapliedjeI would say that Valve should just buy Atari for the IP
I'm not sure how much each brand is worth and how big is the nostalgia around it, but personally I would prefer for Valve to buy the Amiga brand and make it into something great. ;-) I'm not saying they should replace Steam Machines with NG Amigas, but maybe, just maybe, it would work to release a lot of Steam Machines under different brands, aiming at different demographics - Atari, Sega, Amiga etc. - each with custom branding but with Linux and Steam under the hood. It worked for Android, I don't see why it shouldn't work in console market. :-)

Ha, this to me still seems like a Steam Machine marketed by Atari. I would say that Valve should just buy Atari for the IP, but then atari can release the third game, just not the fourth... (if you don't get that reference, please look up the most amazing video game contest ever, Swordquest!)
This whole thing certainly has nerds choosing sides. You have the bitter Atarians who cling onto their old machines of one era or another and saying that Atari isn't even the same (I kind of agree, they were dead since they merged with JTS in '96), then you have the ones who will buy anything with the Fuji. I am somewhere in the middle.
Depending on what the hardware specs are, how they plan to integrate Steam (or maybe they made a deal with GoG and this is their 'galaxy' interface?) And some of the presentation on the crowdfunding, I may get one. I will after for sure when they are generally available if they use Linux correctly (unlike Android).

Do it! I have been rounding off my collection of Jag games, but sadly haven't had time to play some. NBA Jam TE being one of my recent acquisitions. Though lately for my Jeff Minter needs, I play Polybius which is on the PS4, but I thought I read somewhere that he was going to port it to Linux once the exclusivity deal was over with Sony. Actually, this makes me consider dusting off my Jaguar and hooking it up on the weekend.

The hack and slash RPG 'Vikings - Wolves of Midgard' is now available on Linux

You can play it local co-op. Seems a bit easy though, may need to up the difficulty.

Quoting: neowiz73Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTThere is a sale right now! Is the game worth it? The reviews are mixed: Good and bad ones are almost even. Usually this is a bad sign.
if you like playing just single player portion of hack 'n slash action RPGs then this game is fun. there is some performance issues. but on my system, it was minimal. it looks great and works really well. they have recently fixed many small bugs that were in the game. on Linux it works really well. it's a unique twist on Viking mythology. it is loosely based, but well enough as you can tell they must have really enjoyed watching Vikings the tv series, because there are some tidbits of influence there.
overall it's a decent story, but it is a bit of a grind for crafting gear at the parts where you need to upgrade your buildings to continue on. just don't grind to much, because when you hit new game+ all of your materials reset. which I feel was totally unnecessary, and a bit of a kick in the balls so to speak. maybe they will tweak this in a later patch (hopefully).
for a single run threw it is a really fun game and worth it while it's on sale, if you really get into the grind of hack 'n slash games like Diablo for the late game, then this will be a good investment, because it seems the devs are still working to improve this game.

Judging by a lot of the reactions in the AtariAge forums that I have posted in (I was one of the first to suggest it sounded like a SteamOS or Linux based Machine..) most of the Atari fans are bitter about some Coleco Chameleon project that soured them from crowdfunding. I am certainly excited for it, but there definitely needs to be assurances that we won't get screwed like the Stormfly backers (apparently the guy who was behind that fiasco is also behind the AtariBox.)

Quoting: BlackBloodRumNew Atari console running locked down custom OS or windows? Meh
New Atari console that runs my favourite OS and can play my current Steam games? SOLD!
This could be good for tux gaming though, Atari still has a whole (now old) generation who follow them loyally who would probably buy this console regardless of OS, which means more Linux compatible games if successful.
Good news all round in my opinion. Now if only Sony would do the same with the Playstation 5 - Can you imagine it? The three major consoles becoming "Atari (Linux), XBox 1440(Windows, boo!) and PS5(Linux)"? Instead of the current (somewhat fixed) market of PS4(Running custom BSD) and X720(Running Windows 10).
But yup, looking forward to the Ataribox!

Yeah, for the most part I live a quiet life of seclusion because people are nuts, but I do work with a bunch of other nerds, so that's my 'safe place'. But even then you get people who are practically religious about their operating system of choice.... That's like those trolls who keep telling people to just use Windows on Linux request threads. I mean it's like they're little hate-filled Nazi scum that can't stand it when others think differently than they do... But we could rant about history and forced ideas until... well we're dead and bitter from old age. So whatever, GAME ON!!!

But taking it out on the rest of us and pulling the victim card every second time a porter's/dev's work or decisions are criticized is not okay.
That just means he's a celebrity right?
What I don't get is... at what point has civilization degraded so much that support for a video game can cause people to make death threats that you wonder that it's just time to do a 'reset'?
People who make death threats like this should seek professional help. I could see making death threats to child molesters and people who talk in movie theaters. But video game porters?
It's behavior like this, that makes ya think twice about informing new people about your video gaming hobby.

For what it's worth, Debian Sid's version of 'joystick' is 1.6.0 and has a recommend for evtest. You could probably start that up next to jstest. I'll do that now.
Edit, they certainly all look like they work through evdev.
