Quoting: Purple Library GuyWhatever happened to that mech game that was like turn-based with small squads of mechs, that there was an article about in GoL some time back? Unfortunately I can't remember the name . . .
Like, I think it maybe was still in beta or something at the time, and I don't remember hearing of it being released . . . but maybe it was actually out and I just forgot to put it in my wishlist . . . urgh, my memory. It's annoying because I can remember it seemed pretty cool and now I don't know how to find it; it's been niggling at me every time a mech game comes up.

Battletech, maybe?

Kickstarter says May 2017... GIMME! Been wanting a hard core battletech video game for a VERY long time. This one looks like it's the first proper one ever (based fully on the board game).

Quoting: meggermanMech games seem like the perfect fodder for VR. Hopefully Linux/SteamOS VR developement can continue to make strides as the next gen of headsets demand even more performance and efficiency at driver / OS level.

It sounds like Mech games are made for VR. Yet, having played some VR games, I think one might need a pretty strong stomach to play such a game. Even plain moving (character walking on its own or a car) is making many people rather sick after a few minutes. If you would add sway and stomping to that, I don't know if many could play it.

Well, if you can handle playing Windlands standing up (I'm okay at it sitting down, it's really odd standing up..) then you probably can handle anything in VR.

But I was going to post the same thing, VR is just crying for a Mech Game. Think about it, a Mech game (or driving games for that matter) are indeed perfect anyhow, because you're not going to be feeling like you're just free walking when you're not. Though maybe the bouncing up and down you'd most likely do in a Mech harness wouldn't translate well, being fully seated and moving around in a swivel chair controlling a Mech makes a lot of sense.

The next version of SDL will have Steam Controller support out of the box

Quoting: Darkdisorder78Valve doesn't care about steam os. Can anyone tell me what they are doing for steam os? It still needs a lot of work

Sure they do, but this has nothing to do with SteamOS, in which the Steam Controller works fine.

SDL support will mean we can have native support in MAME, which is awesome.

There's going to be a Vulkan event in the UK, Feral Interactive & Croteam will be attending

They need Epic and Unity there. Vulkan adoption will make more shit work in VR (at least I'm pretty sure that's why they aren't working.)

Linux gamers on Arch may want to hold off on updating due to openssl breaking some games (updated)
24 April 2017 at 11:15 pm UTC

I love Arch, but there is definitely a price to be paid for having a rolling distribution. This reminds me of the time a bad version of Ghostscript popped into it and it would cause any printouts to be solid black.

Good things there are always work arounds though, which is what makes Linux si great. Do you think Windows 10 would let you roll back a core library if it broke anything? Or macOS for that matter. Not that macOS would update core libraries that often...

Two Worlds II to release on Linux in May, along with engine upgrade & Call of the Tenebrae DLC

Ha! My mistake, I was thinking Two Worlds: Epic Edition was the second one, when in fact it is the first. I could have sworn the second one was already released. :P

So... they'll release on Linux.

Yeah that's a pleonasm. SteamOS is Linux lol

What would really suck is if there were a way to force you to use SteamOS instead of whatever flavor of Linux you prefer.

Then again, I'm sure whatever possible thing they could to try to enforce that, someone would find a way around it. Fortunately Valve is smart enough to to bother trying.

On another note; There was the comment about needing more 'Good Open world RPGs', when I played Two Worlds (may have just been the first one) it was pretty terrible. Not sure if I even tried the second. But this is just an enhancement, right? How many damned editions do they need? I apparently have Two Worlds II in my library on Steam, but don't have the Epic Edition there; but on GoG, I have Two Worlds II: Epic Edition (Linux support), and Two Worlds II: Velvet Edition (Windows only).

Is this going to be the "Epically Velvety Velour Edition?

For someone who just had Lasik surgery, I applaud the color scheme on the new site. Damn white ends up being bluish blinding hell to me at the moment!

Playstation 3 emulator 'RPCS3' has improved Linux support recently

Sweet, maybe this will replace my aging PS3 that has issues reading disks randomly.

Contraption Maker, a slight oldie but a great Linux game to check out if you like your puzzles
14 April 2017 at 5:41 pm UTC

Speaking of games in this genre, Fantastic Contraptions lists Linux support, but I believe since SteamVR requires Vulkan right now, it probably won't work in the Vive until it supports Vulkan.

Anyone who hasn't played that in VR should, it's a blast. I think you can play it without that though...

There are only a few of these type of games, but they are a blast. Like Crayon Physics was one of the few games I played until the end on my tablet. I normally can't stand mobile games.
