ha ha, Yeah, it's called Serious Sam: The First Encounter HD.
From what I understand, they're planning on updating all of the games to their new engine (was it called Fusion?) and that'll allow Linux ports for all.
Croteam are my heroes.

This is making more and more angry. It's almost like Steam needs a 'full controller support in Windows' checkbox.

QuoteThe game states it has "full controller support", but with the Steam Controller it doesn't register the triggers meaning you cannot shoot, which makes it quite unplayable. The good thing is that the Steam Controller is highly configurable, so I adjusted the right and left triggers to act like a mouse buttons and it was sufficient enough for now, until they fix the gamepad support on Linux.

I can't speak for the Rift personally, since I have the vive, but as stated before, depending on your glasses, you do have the possibility of scratching the lenses, but you can move the Vive outward from your face to prevent that.
Funny thing is, the GearVR has an adjustable focus, so I can wear them with or without glasses. The focal point in the Vive (and from what I've read the Rift as well) is fixed, so you'll basically be as blind in real life as you are in VR. So I went with the custom lenses on my Vive.
BUT (and this is a big one) I didn't NEED to get the lenses, I simply did it for convenience and because I wanted a slightly larger FOV. Basically I got the 6mm VRCover replacement, and lenses (because with the VRCover it lacks the slots for fitting glasses in). Since I'm pretty much the only one who uses my headset, I went that route, and it's REALLY comfortable, though since it doesn't hold the sweat in, be warned that one guy on Reddit just oozed forth enough sweat that he shorted out the screen (it was enough that it left a puddle on his floor...) So keep that in mind when you try out the sponge that it comes with...
Mind you, I've spent hours watching movies in mine, and when I'm not playing a game, it's inactive use so no sweat. On the other hand, SSVR: The First Encounter made me sweat quite a bit, even though I was just spinning around in my chair.
Maybe if I can get mine working in Linux, I'll see what games work in it and will post some reviews or something.

They do seem to follow (or try to) the Debian main releases, since there was a decent update when 8.7 was 'released'. I honestly think the main reason they went with Debian instead of Ubuntu is because of the stability it brings, and the lack of 'let's re-invent everything, and do it every 6 months.' mentality that Ubuntu has.

The dongle things. You push the 'menu/pause' button to bring up your weapon list (it goes slow motion while doing this) and you move with a teleport with the touch pad, or you can kind of hop short distances. I think I may have mine set up weird, because there should be ways to smoothly run and jump, but I didn't see the option for that.
Game is a blast, can't wait to try it under Linux.

This is very true. I have both the GearVR and a Vive, and there simply is no comparison. I wish they'd port Dead Halls to the Vive, it would be amazing in room scale.
There was an article quite a while back that went into details (this was written even before the VR of the 90s if I recall) of what 'True' VR is. It's more along the lines of the Matrix or Lawnmower Man. Being able to interact with the virtual reality is a key feature, and interact in a way that is beyond a simple game pad. The Vive is the closest thing we have to that right now (and will definitely hit that point once we have full body tracking.)
I can't help but think the next big VR technology push though is going to have something to do with sex toys...

VR is "salt" to spice up our gaming fun, "sent" to us by the gaming gods? I've just played an hour of Serious Sam VR: TFE with my Vive on Linux. It's fun. I disagree with your generalized statement that VR is "shit". Smartphone VR is not the same thing as Vive VR. There are people who've never had any proper, modern (room scale) VR experiences, and still feel they know enough to say that VR isn't interesting (yet). It's all subjective, of course, but at the very least a statement that VR in general is shit isn't very nuanced.

I would suggest trying out the Vive vs the PS4. Full on room scale has just that much more immersion, which I think helps a lot with motion sickness. Though I'll be honest and say I sit down for Windlands... pretty sure that game would make me fall over.

I've played Serious Sam: The First Encounter for quite a few hours. I've also watched Titanic, Avatar, Amazing Spiderman, I Frankenstein in 3D / VR in the Vive. What was the hardware you were playing on, dropped frames maybe? I know if I get something that freezes for even a few seconds it's extremely disorienting.
Also, I ended up getting a 6mm VR Cover, and got custom lenses (I wear glasses normally) and it seems like I can stay in VR much longer.

Quoting: xaviI tried Occulus and Vive. The experience is unbelievable, so good. But I had headache, needed to rest. Is strange for the mind. I hope we have software/hardware improvements instead of making the user adapt to the technology.
My experience makes me stop each 20-30'. Same for my girlfriend. She was VERY impressed, "all was VERY beautiful", but she needed to remove glasses, take some water, relax.
Any of you played for several hours?
By the way, great news to have this on Linux.
Cheers.

The problem is that NOTHING is using the nVidia VR boosting tech, outside of perhaps the nvidia funhouse. Which is actually really fun and a good example of how to optimize things.
While I personally was pointing out to an ex-coworker, that even the GPUs are implementing direct features for VR support to help out, it doesn't mean anything is going to adopt proprietary interfaces for doing so.
