Quoting: Purple Library GuyWhen you have the same director as Robocop and Total Recall, both of which are very anti-corporation, it makes a whole lot of sense that Starship Troopers is very much showing how terrible a military based society is. Still brilliant movies, all three of them. The new Robocop game captured the essence of the movie, and is a suitable sequel to it (I think it's supposed to take place between 2 and 3).Quoting: CaldathrasMy understanding is that that was what the director was specifically going for.Quoting: Purple Library GuyThe movie is not so much a portrayal of the book as a satire of it, poking fun at all the fascism. Now that you mention it, that's how it feels to me too.

Quoting: razing32HmmYeah, it isn't Starship Troopers without hearing, "MEDIC!" after someone is cut in half.
Seems they copied that bit from the movie.
Also , don't recall any arachnid warriors that ate steroids for breakfast like the big one in the trailer.
Why does it seem the violence is so fucking toned down. Everybody gets masks , no blood or dismemberment . When "it" hits the fan ? Really ?

Quoting: Linux_RocksMy point was; they used to be included in the game, not some extra thing. These days, publishers use it as an excuse of 'Deluxe edition!' sales.Quoting: slaapliedjeI just wish there were a way to get the steam store to ignore sound tracks... anyone else remember when you bought a game on CD, that the vast majority of them were just CD Audio tracks you could rip/convert! Imagine a world when you didn't have to pay 10 dollars extra just to listen to the video game music?I like soundtracks on Steam. 👀
Bah, maybe I'm just old, get off my lawn!
What I hate is when the older ones aren't recategorized as such and still act like they're game DLC. Cause it makes getting all of your music easier when they're actually treated as soundtracks.
Valve released Windows drivers for Steam Deck OLED but no official support

A good example of this, especially with Linux/Windows vs Mac: there is a percentage of 'standard' utilities that everyone uses that are open source on Linux vs Windows vs Mac, and it goes in that order of greater to lesser. Pretty obvious to anyone, but once you start using macOS, you'll quickly realize that those standard utilities on the other two that are free (whether open source or closed) are pay for apps on macOS. Even just stupid things are not-zero dollars on the mac/ipad space. You basically need to install brew for anything useful...

Quoting: ShabbyXI think CatKiller is correct, the devs likely see the sheer amount of proper bug reports and just thinks they're complaints. The culture is very different between Linux/Mac/Windows.Quoting: tfkJust read some post on the Steam forums. They got drivers now but are still complaining.
It's a small difference in attitude I'm observing here.
We get native Linux support for something, we say thanks and start to give feedback on any issues we encounter.
They get Windows support for something, they're like "About time!". And when there are issues they're like "It won't work! You suck! I'm selling my device!".
I can see why Valve had this on low priority.
You might not like hearing this, but most projects that treat Linux users as second class citizens have the exact same complaint, that Linux users are entitled and don't appreciate what they got.
People are people, Linux users are no better or worse than any other people.

Then again, I do that with a lot of games... Like I have 11 hours in Doom 2016, but still haven't beaten it because I load it up for a few minutes, kill some demons, then quit again.

Quoting: Liam DaweThe funny thing for me, is I never felt like I got decent performance out of the other games when they were released, then by the time I'd upgraded my computer to be able to play them, I had forgotten to go back and play them. They looked awesome from what little I'd played back in the day though.Quoting: JarmerI too bounced off the earlier game(s), but they always have such a rabid fanbase. I am keeping my eye on this one and will definitely give it a try when it comes out.I don't think any previous game rating matters, they're all old and this is properly next-gen, completely different games.
For proton support, it should be good. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl has a platinum rating on protondb, so that's at least good news.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyThe really sad thing is that the onscreen keyboard for the Nokia N9 is open source and was supposed to be part of the Gnome project... but for whatever reason they ditched that and implemented a different one, which is pretty crappy. https://maliit.github.io/Quoting: ahoneybunI'm saying you wouldn't type in those modes--the whole point of having it also as a laptop is that when you want to type, you'd use it as a laptop not a tablet.Quoting: Purple Library GuyQuoting: ahoneybunAfter trying out a tablet with Linux (GNOME and Plasma) I have to say they all need some work but mostly with the OSK. ChromeOS has the best keyboard since it can also be split and floating which is great for using the system. I want to see more products like this with Linux but we really need to address these issues.Mind you, with something like this I don't think you'd use the screen keyboard much. It has a real one, if you're going to be typing you just fold it the other way.
With it folded or in tent mode how would you use the keyboard?

I bought a Lenovo Yoga 9i that is similar to this thing, and it's awesome. Pretty sure the battery life is better as well. The only thing in it that doesn't work with Linux is the fingerprint reader. Unfortunately for me, the main reason I bought it was to use Dungeondraft, which I recently found out is the biggest pig on memory I've ever seen... with all the assets loaded, it takes about 30gb of ram... I actually upgraded my desktop to 128gb of ram, just so I could run it without it freezing my system!

Quoting: mr-victoryIs it possible to make calls with the 4G module on this?Likely not, there are a lot of things for carriers that they require a specific module. Like I have an iPad with 5G in it, but it's data only.

Quoting: JarmerEVERYONE SHOULD REPEAT THIS AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE:Even with the insane inflation, us little people don't get raises like that!
CEO Pat Gelsinger made $17 million in 2023 alone. That was a 45% raise from his 2022 salary of $12 million. This asshole took almost a 50% raise (what normal person ever gets anywhere close to that), laughed, turned around, and fired THOUSANDS of people.
If the company you are leading has to cut 15k people because of insane ramblings like "revenue has not grown as expected" then surely he will take a 90% cut next year, right? RIGHT?

Quoting: sneakeyboardSad times, as I figured the original one would be perfect for such things.Quoting: slaapliedjeI just finally broke down and got one with an NVME drive. Anyone aware of a controller one can use to 'wake it up' and/or go into the boot menu remotely? Would be awesome as a thing to dock into the TV for the dual boot to Batocera.
So far we can't do this with the old model. This may not be accurate but based on what I know using a controller to wake up the device seems to work only for wired interfaces or with dongles. The issue here is that when a device goes to sleep, so does the antenna/radio that communicates with controllers. I could be totally wrong but that's likely the reason. Another cause could be hardware limitations, which may be the case instead.
Looking back at some saved posts, wake up feature seems to have been implemented on the OLED version but no luck for us...earlier adopters.
