I really want to buy this, but it seems that it is another strategy game that's run amok with DLC? Or is the Linux version going to be a 'Ultimate' release? So far this 'we'll sell you bare bones edition, that will be filled in with DLC that will make the game cost 200 bucks in the end' crap needs to stop. *cough* looking at you Paradox *cough*.

Any of the bad reviews I see on steam are not due to the game sucking, but because Sega / Creative Assembly nickel and dime the hell out of everything (one person mentions DLC to enable gore...).

Right now (one DLC is on sale for 10% off) if you buy the game and all DLC, it's USD $123.03... That is pretty nuts.

Quoting: Mountain ManLooks like I'm somewhere between the minimum and recommended specs. It worked out well for Mad Max, so I wonder if I'll be able to eke some good performance out of this one?

Have you gotten to the area in front of Gastown in Mad Max yet? Performance on my system (32gb / i7-6700k / 1080 GTX) dies there. Granted I have max settings, but it's fine everywhere else, just chokes on all the garbage.. er particles there. Haven't tested if it's a Linux performance thing or not yet though.

Quoting: PixelPiIn the future consoles will no longer play an important role, just like PCs. So you need a concept like Steam Machines to exist in the niche. The big business has moved to the mobile market. We stubbornly PC and console players are a very small group already today. And Sony and Micosoft are not interested in small groups. Microsoft will abandon the Xbox just as they gave up Windows Phone. Sony will also look for other areas in the future. They will no longer invest billions of dollars in their consoles. Without Steam Microsoft would already lost money in the gaming sector.

I love that people keep saying this... Personal Computers will always be around. You can't create most things on a tablet/phone, it's just too painful. I don't know how you can say PC and console players are a very small group. Compared to what? Dumb people who play Candy Crush on smart phones? Playing any of the type of games that the PC / Consoles are good at is simply painful on a smart phone. Not to mention the ad-laden crapfest of games that are on Android (I can't speak for iOS because I've never used it).

Only fact here is that PC sales have slowed because people don't need to buy a new one ever year.. or even every few years. Hell pre-built systems for personal use probably has dropped a huge amount because unless it's a laptop, most people can just upgrade whatever system they already have. Doesn't mean there are less people using it, specifically for gaming. Just looking at Windows supported games on Steam alone, there are far more games available than probably the the last two generations of game consoles. (would be interested in seeing those numbers if someone wanted to look into it more.)

I've considered getting one... but the price of my 1080GTX could have bought me a lower powered Steam Machine. Maybe once the 1080 has been out a few years and can be minimized, and SteamVR is working in Linux, I'd consider the purchase, for right now, my desktop Tower is my gaming machine.

The link has weird audio delay issues, which is why I'd consider a steam machine.

Quoting: slaapliedjeI don't know how one could even gauge whether or not Steam Machines have failed. Companies are still making them, right? How have they failed in that case?

Having lived through the life of the Atari Jaguar (as short as it was) and the fact that it lives off of homebrew titles still, I'd consider that a failure in the mainstream, but people still love it. Steam Machines are still being made, more games are being released for it, and the library is getting larger every day. So really, how are they a failure? Have they sold millions of units? No because they have various versions. We'd have to count every machine that has pre-installed SteamOS to count it, and I don't see Dell, Zotac, Syber, etc releasing sales numbers yet.
every steam machine includes an steam controller, and steam controller are sold separately, also, every console have support at least 4 controllers and steam controllers work on Pc too, valve stoped marketing steam machines, or featuring it on their store, but they do with controller, they arent planing ship it world wide or exapand their market to other countries but they do with the controller and link.
and steam controller sold less than 1 million of copies

Good observation. The next logical followup question is...... Why?

Why have have Valve done this. Begin speculation.

Eh? They advertise Steam Machines on their store there. They list no less than 5 different brands.

There are no such things as Exclusives!!! As soon as the PC is powerful enough, there will be an emulator for them. :)

At least that's how I look at it. Game consoles are stagnant hardware platforms. And anymore, they literally are chunks of x86 compatible hardware with a specific OS. Virtualize that OS and you can run any of the 'Exclusives' eventually.
