I feel rather terrible. I got in on the beta on this game, and haven't had a chance to give it a thorough playing. Been meaning to play it with my brother, since that is the majority of my gaming time.

Most of the time they're just another game trying to be minecraft. Remember when 'Open-world' meant something like the Ultima games (except maybe 8, which was pretty linear and terrible). Now 'Open-world' mostly means 'a pointless romp around some environment where you build things, and potentially get attacked by other things that break the things you built so you have to start over.'

Now that I've finally had a moment to play it... it's pretty awesome, my save game carried across from when I was playing before, but the steam controller seems a bit 'off' with the default settings, and I managed to play it for about 30 min, then it hard locked my machine!
It also says my distro isn't supported (debian sid), but of course that's easy enough to work around.

You know one of my favorite part about this game being released for Linux? That the trolls that said it'd never happen because people shouldn't bother with it can eat some crow.
That and I can finally finish it. What's the best way of saying "Thanks Feral, port more!" without having to buy another copy. I don't really need another copy, don't mind giving them money, and wish the Steam thing worked differently than it does.. but really, should be a way in steam that says "please I know I bought this before, but share some love with the third party porting houses!"

That's exactly right. I think it's the little game I think we all play where we try to guess which DE, which Distro, etc is being used in a movie/presentation/demo/etc. I know watching Mr. Robot, I do that a lot.

Quoting: AimelaReally, it doesn't matter too much which distro is being used, as Valve has made accommodations for more universal Linux support with the Steam Runtime to begin with. I doubt that the HTC Vive will have much(if any) distro-specific issues when support for it releases.

Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition removed from stores in favour of the new Anniversary World Tour, no Linux support

Who cares about the Linux version, I play it on the Atari Falcon; http://files.dhs.nu/movies/misc/msbduke_66-16.avi
Ha, only kidding, I think I have all the Duke Nukem games in my Steam library already. Pretty sure there was some bundle sale I'd picked up long ago.
I think in general once you've bought a game on Steam, you have it forever, otherwise it's a breach of contract to just steal them away. I have seen games pulled from the store before, but you can still download them.

Actually thinking about it, there are probably more distros that have standard KDE than have weird custom ones (I can really only think of Suse based ones off the top of my head)
Regardless, where is my working SteamVR? Would love for a fully supported Talos Principle in VR! Pretty sure games like Dying Light would make most people yak. But then I can play windlands without spewing.

Why Kubuntu? Could have as easily been Debian Sid with KDE? Which also installs a stock KDE.
Regardless of that, my guess on the real reason they didn't use SteamOS is because it probably has older drivers that don't have full Vulkan support.
Though I have to say, now VR on Linux is even more Niche... Only the games that support VR + have Linux native + Vulkan support. How many games is that? Maybe the upcoming Serious Sam VR? I think that's pretty much it...
Granted I'm sure they'll come!
I would just be happy at this point with Linux not thinking the Vive is an extra display and the primary one at that!

I have the Roccat Tyon and it is awesome. Though I admittedly have had to do some funky things now and then because some games thinks it's a game pad (at least in Windows, I don't think I have had that issue in Linux.)
I've considered a few times to get the Nyth, but ended up thinking that it'd be far less comfortable than the Tyon. Been considering getting a second Tyon for work, I especially love that it has buttons for quick flipping of the DPI, or mouse profiles, or even that it has built in page up/down.

Quoting: Crystal DaggerQuoting: CybolicThe Roccat Nyth mouse will get you halfway there! It has 12 modular side buttons and roughly 3 extra on the top, all configurable through the fantastic Linux driver, which is an open source project by Stefan Achatz officially supported and assisted by Roccat. I highly recommend it!
That mouse looks awesome, it sort of reminds me of the logitech g600, sadly I just recently bought a new mouse (nothing fancy tbh) but it will get this one when I need to replace mine, thanks for the info, I'm totally saving that name :). *grabs hammer*

Whoa, that controller looks sweet. Damnit, I have too many stinking controllers! What would be nice is some mods to the Steam Controller to get tracking on it for those few games that still play best with a game pad. At least then you won't put the HMD on, then fumble around looking for the controller.
It feels pretty natural in Elite: Dangerous with my Saitek X52 Pro set up in front of me, but it could do with some tracking / centering too. On the other hand of that, Elite needs to be ported to Vulkan / Linux....
