Quoting: MiZoGMark Shuttleworth giveth and Mark Shuttleworth taketh awayHa, Mark Shuttleworth didn't invent the Linux Desktop. That'd be all of the hard working developers working on things like Gnome and KDE and the earlier ones like Enlightenment, Wmaker, etc.
He invented Linux Desktop and then blew it off.

I stopped using Ubuntu long ago when their core reason for existing changed. That core reason for existing was initially, Take Debian and make a 6 month stable release schedule, and always have the current Gnome release.
They switched to Unity during the initial Gnome-Shell release (can't say as I blame them, Debian and Ubuntu both should have hung out for at least a year on Gnome 2 before 3 became more usable. Though I suppose realistically we should blame that on the Gnome project. KDE had the same issue of course with their large version bump being not great, and the distributions of course want to have the latest 'stable' release at the time.)
I gave it another try once they gave up on Unity to use standard Gnome... except it wasn't standard, they add a bunch of their own extensions to it to make it more like Unity. This means I can either install Ubuntu, go through and disable snap, rip out all the extensions to give me stock Gnome, add in the few extensions I like to have, and then use it... with the distinct possibility that some update will add snaps back in.
Or I could just use Debian. I'll let you figure out what I chose :)

Amusing that they benchmarked Forspoken, a game which most reviewers said was horrible :P

I actually am wanting Debian to step up and replace RHEL as the new Enterprise Linux. This would be awesome, and there are a lot of reasons on a non-technical side why it should be! Will always be free, community based, and not any way some corporation could take it and run away with their toys.
Unfortunately there are some technical reasons why it isn't ready for that (mostly to do with anyone who has to do federal compliance stuff, which is almost thoroughly rpm/redhat based).

Quoting: 14Hmm, I'm wondering if I should try Xorg over Wayland as well, to see if my black squares stop happening.Quoting: slaapliedjeI'm on AMD and have only used Vulkan so far.Quoting: 14I am not experiencing any problems with the game. I am not running any launch options, no MangoHUD, the normal Proton (not GE), mainline kernel. It's too bad several of you are mentioning bugs, but I have to wonder why. The game was in EA for a LONG time, so I was confident enough to buy it on release day. I'm quite happy. Are you using DirectX or Vulkan? nvidia or amd gpu? (Or Intel?).
I'm not running it with any launch options or anything either, I can't tell if the weird film thing is due to an actual on-purpose effect, my eyes getting old, or what. But in Vulkan, definitely get randomly black boxes popping around. Been seeing other reports of that one though.
I did experience my first crash yesterday after I think patch #2. It was during the launch of the game. It loaded to 67%, froze, and then crashed. The crash detector said to verify files, which I did. There was a checkbox to do it in the crash detector instead of doing it through Steam. After that, it worked again. I was worried it was going to ruin my first co-op session, but it worked out.

Quoting: soulsourceHa, this game is reminding me more and more of Ishar. You could hire people to come along, but they each had their own personalities and some would refuse to heal others. Cool game, I should actually play it seriously one of these days...Quoting: slaapliedjeI had two story bugs in 6 hours of gameplay. One was something minor in the Overgrown Ruins, where the dialogue with the locked book bugged out. The other was more annoying and quite weird, at the trap where one finds Lae'zel again, after the nautiloid crash. I chose to shoot the cage down, and immediately after that I talked to Lae'zel and sent her to the camp.Quoting: soulsourceHuh, the only bugs I've ran into so far with 6-ish hours of play, is graphical black boxes that kept appearing (this is on my desktop with 7900 XT).Quoting: RaabenI have had so many mechanical, UI, quest, and dialogue bugsThis. As much as I love the game, the bugs are extremely annoying. One really has to save every few minutes, just so one can reload if one runs into a game-breaking issue...
Granted, I lost an hour-ish of play because I ran into a room where a bunch of traps blew me up... and hadn't saved, since newer games tend to autosave every five steps... I need to get back into the habit of saving all the time again.
The Tieflings were still friendly, so I talked to them again, what caused Lae'zel to float mid-air, where the cage had previously been, acting like I never freed her. Next time I went to the camp she was there, but hostile. Seems she didn't like that I left her in the cage, even though she very clearly was at my camp, where i sent her, after I freed her...

Quoting: wvstolzingHa, before the flood of IBM Compatibles?Quoting: EikeQuoting: Purple Library GuyQuoting: slaapliedjeI'm on the side with 'needs numpad', there are older games that absolutely require the numpad (I'm talking games like Dungeon Master mostly). That reminds me. Are there, like, standalone numpads? Seems like with all the people loving their very different setups that would be a thing.
Yes, dozens.
I remember a cardboard box full of numpads for the Apple II in our school lab. Back in antediluvian times.

When reading that the best way to play it on AMD is to use Vulkan, and one would think that's the case for Linux especially... but still it has big graphical issues with Vulkan... kind of sad. Still an annoyingly fun game. Still need to figure out where the Enlarge / Reduce spell is for my Duergar...

Quoting: ArehandoroLast night I tried the game on the Deck, connected to the TV, and until FSR 2.2 comes out I will still play on my desktop. There was a weird granular effect that made the experience rather annoying. It was also quite late and having to adapt to the controller was not a fun thing to do.I've noticed that on my desktop, where things randomly become sort of grainy, like a bit of old style film... I actually kind of liked the effect, so kept playing haha.
