Civilization VI announced, will support Linux & SteamOS
11 May 2016 at 7:25 pm UTC

At least the Civ games have all been really accessible. The Paradox ones are so highly detailed, tutorial videos are an hour plus long thing to get basic mechanics down.

Not that I am saying it's a bad thing, but I do think they would be more successful if they didn't take such dedication to get into. Granted the first Civ game I ever played was the first one on the Atari ST. And I had always thought they needed some ruler mechanic so you could grow old and die if you didn't have some sort of heir, like Crusader Kings 2.

Looks like both Dead Island Definitive Edition and Dead Island Riptide Definitive Edition are coming to Linux & SteamOS

Nice, I still haven't won riptide yet. Stopped playing it when I started being in Linux 90% of the time.

I wonder if this is a sign that Dead Island 2 is going to get a port when it's finally released.

I pre-ordered mine on the humble store (yay 10% off everything) and the key hasn't shown up yet either.

I also bought 60 dollars worth of DLC I hadn't gotten for CK2 yet... and I haven't even figured out how to play the thing! half way through the tutorial series I found, I gave up and played some other game ha. I need to learn how to play their games!

Well, after playing Cloudlands: VR Minigolf, I don't know how I could play any normal golf game on a computer again! Seriously awesome, damnit HTC, fix up the Linux support!

Discord chat app updated, now has game detection

I still think that after all this time, all games with a multiplayer aspect would have the functionality built in. Consider an MMO where if you aren't within a certain distance, your group can't hear you. If for example in something like ArmA, you had to whisper to ambush your enemies, whether they are people or AI. I think one of the Splinter Cell games had this option. Adds to the Immersion.

I used the 0.0.1 release during a WoW session and it seemed to work fine. Granted it didn't have game detection at the time, but I wonder if said game detection supports games running in Wine.

Damn, I ended up getting it on Humble Bundle store, since I am a monthly subscriber there, I got 10% off. 25% off would have been sweet. Looks like a great game, and Paradox has been releasing almost all of their stuff on Linux on day 1. Magicka 2 being the only exception I can think of.

Would be nice if they'd port some of their older library, but I guess after Hearts of Iron 4 comes out, probably not much point in playing 1-3? It's not like they're sequels, just updated engines for the same stuff. Really looking forward to that one... still have tons of Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV to play.

Quoting: tuubi
Quoting: slaapliedjeAwesome thing about Tomb Raider (at least the Windows version) was when you turned on Tesselation (I think that was the option). It makes her hair look all stringy, but then it also made the framerate drop into a beautiful slide show. I wonder if they'll implement it correctly here? I actually have a system that can handle it now :D
They've promised a working implementation of the TressFX thingy. The funny thing is, they're saying that on Linux this AMD technology only works on Nvidia.

It probably makes use of compute shaders, as the original effect used DirectCompute. Maybe there's something missing still from the brand new Mesa CS support.

That's what it was called! And yes, that's hilarious that they'd make an AMD tech work only on nvidia drivers. I think it's one of the techs that make the PS4 actually look awesome and not what the specs would be compared to if it were a PC running Windows.

Nekro has been abandoned by one of the creators, the story isn't so clear

I have only backed a few games so far. Satellite Reign, which is awesome!, Bard's Tale 4 (still waiting on that one) Wasteland 2, and some game I can't even remember the name of right now (was supposed to be a Chaos Engine style game that they were even going to do an Amiga OS4 port!). I also popped in and got in as a 'backer' on Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen.

Notice two of those are from a reputable development company. These all had some previous developers involved, ones known for greatness in the industry. On the other hand, you always can run into something like Godus, where Molyneux thinks that he shits gold, and then it just stinks like everyone else's. So sad that the guy who came up with Populous could sink so low...

Either way, crap happens, as is the way of life. While these individuals that were working on the game have now had their dreams dashed, at least hopefully no one paid a huge amount for the game.
